Rational Electrolyte Design for Elevated-Temperature and Thermally Stable Lithium-Ion Batteries with Nickel-Rich Cathodes.

As the energy density of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) increases, the shortened cycle life and the increased safety hazards of LIBs are drawing increasing concerns. To address such challenges, a series of localized high-concentration electrolytes (LHCEs) based on a solvating-solvent mixture of tetramethylene sulfone and trimethyl phosphate and a high flash-point diluent 1H,1H,5H-octafluoropentyl 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl ether were designed. The LHCEs exhibited nonflammability and greatly suppressed heat release at elevated temperatures, which would potentially improve the safety performance of the LIBs.

Serendipitous Discovery of Dearomatized Dimers in Anthracene Derivative Oxidation.

We present the serendipitous discovery of an unusual dimer formed from anthracene-derived polyarenes. Unlike the typical oxidative coupling of substituted aromatic scaffolds, the reaction yielded a dearomatized enone dimer as the sole product. This dearomatized motif, notably, does not undergo the commonly observed rearomatization, and no biaryl products were detected.

Biomarkers for anti-angiogenic drugs in chemo-refractory metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) are lacking. We investigated the relationship between stanniocalcin 1 (STC1) and outcomes in patients treated with regorafenib in the TEXCAN and CORRECT trials. Baseline plasma STC1 protein levels were measured by ELISA from patients with chemo-refractory mCRC enrolled in TEXCAN (regorafenib n=48) and CORRECT (placebo n=211; regorafenib n=435).

Race and ethnicity affect the distribution of molecular alterations seen in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). While anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) alterations are known to occur in 4-5% of the population, data specific to the Hispanic population remains limited. This study describes the real-world incidence of ALK alterations in Hispanic patients with NSCLC treated at a large academic institution in Los Angeles, California, USA to further elucidate the underlying factors that shape differences in mutational profiles.

Electrically Switching Ferroelectric Order in 3R-MoS Layers.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) with rhombohedral (3R) stacking order are excellent platforms to realize multiferroelectricity. In this work, we demonstrate the electrical switching of ferroelectric orders in bilayer, trilayer, and tetralayer 3R-MoS dual-gate devices by examining their reflection and photoluminescence (PL) responses under sweeping out-of-plane electric fields. We observe sharp shifts in excitonic spectra at different critical fields with pronounced hysteresis.

KRAS is a potent oncogenic driver which results in downstream hyperactivation of MAPK signaling, while simultaneously increasing replication stress (RS) and accumulation of DNA damage. KRASG12C mutations are common and targetable alterations. Spiking neural networks seek to emulate biological computation through interconnected artificial neuron and synapse devices. Spintronic neurons can leverage magnetization physics to mimic biological neuron functions, such as integration tied to magnetic domain wall (DW) propagation in a patterned nanotrack and firing tied to the resistance change of a magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ), captured in the domain wall-magnetic tunnel junction (DW-MTJ) device. Leaking, relaxation of a neuron when it is not under stimulation, is also predicted to be implemented based on DW drift as a DW relaxes to a low energy position, but it has not been well explored or demonstrated in device prototypes.

Advancements in the development of fast-charging and long-lasting microstructured alloying anodes with high volumetric capacities are essential for enhancing the operational efficiency of sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). These anodes, however, face challenges such as declined cyclability and rate capability, primarily due to mechanical degradation reduced by significant volumetric changes (over 252%) and slow kinetics of sodium-ion storage. A systematic literature review was conducted in 7 research databases with an 11-year time frame reflecting the launch of SVI, with the last search completed on September 29, 2022.

Repeated measurements of household air pollution may provide better estimates of average exposure but can add to costs and participant burden. In a randomized trial of gas versus biomass cookstoves in four countries, we took supplemental personal 24-h measurements on a 10% subsample for mothers and infants, interspersed between protocol samples. Mothers had up to five postrandomization protocol measurements over 16 months, while infants had three measurements over one year.

In this work, we describe a computational tool designed to determine the local dielectric constants (ε) of charge-neutral heterogeneous systems by analyzing dipole moment fluctuations from molecular dynamics (MD) trajectories. Unlike conventional methods, our tool can calculate dielectric constants for dynamically evolving selections of molecules within a defined region of space, rather than for fixed sets of molecules. We validated our approach by computing the dielectric constants of TIP3P water nanospheres, achieving results consistent with literature values for bulk water.

This review evaluates post-marketing label changes in dosing information for FDA-approved mAbs from January 2015 to September 2024, with a focus on both initial and extended indications.
