Background: Archetypes are representations of a group of people with shared behaviors, attitudes, and characteristics. The design and use of archetypes have potential application to increase partnership and support when embedding and scaling interventions but methodological approaches have not been developed.

Objective: To describe the methodology of designing archetypes for use in a pragmatic trial of advance care planning in the primary care context, SHARING Choices ((NCT04819191).

Buprenorphine and postpartum contraception utilization among people with opioid use disorder: a multi-state analysis.

Background: The postpartum period provides an opportunity for birthing people with opioid use disorder (OUD) to consider their future reproductive health goals. However, the relationship between the use of medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) and contraception utilization is not well understood. We used multistate administrative claims data to compare contraception utilization rates among postpartum people with OUD initiating buprenorphine (BUP) versus no medication (psychosocial services receipt without MOUD (PSY)) in the United States (US).

Optimizing transcutaneous spinal stimulation: excitability of evoked spinal reflexes is dependent on electrode montage.

Background: There is growing interest in use of transcutaneous spinal stimulation (TSS) for people with neurologic conditions both to augment volitional control (by facilitating motoneuron excitability), and to decrease spasticity (by activating inhibitory networks). Various electrode montages are used during TSS, with little understanding of how electrode position influences spinal circuit activation. We sought to identify the thoracolumbar electrode montage associated with the most robust activation of spinal circuits by comparing posterior root-muscle reflexes (PRM reflexes) elicited by 6 montages.

Global, regional, and national burden of esophageal cancer: a systematic analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021.

Background And Objective: Esophageal cancer (EC) is the seventh most prevalent cancer globally and the sixth leading cause of cancer-related mortality. This study aimed to provide an updated stratified assessment of rates in EC incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021 by sex, age, and Socio-demographic Index (SDI) at global, regional, and national levels, as well as to project the future trends of EC both globally and regionally.

Methods: Data about age-standardized rates (ASRs) of incidence (ASIR), mortality (ASDR), probability of death (ASPoD) and DALYs (ASDALYRs) of EC were obtained from the 2021 Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study.

Methods: Data on GI cancers were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021. Age-standardized incidence rates (ASIR) and age-standardized mortality rates (ASMR) were estimated across various states, sexes, ages, and risk factors, and annual percentage changes were calculated.

Commissioning health services for First Nations, regional, and remote populations: a scoping review.

Background: Commissioning for health services has been implemented as one approach to improve the quality and access to healthcare for First Nations, regional and remote populations. This review systematically scoped the literature for studies that described or evaluated the governance, funding, implementation and outcomes from health service commissioning targeting these groups in Canada, Australia, Aotearoa/New Zealand and the United States (CANZUS nations).

Methods: Seventeen databases were searched for relevant peer reviewed and grey literature studies published in English from 2010 to 2023.

Impacts of a puberty and period education intervention among 9- to 12-year-old girls in the New York metropolitan area: a randomized trial.

Objectives: To evaluate the immediate impacts of an illustrated book on puberty and periods for girls in the United States (US).

Methods: We conducted a randomized educational intervention between February-May 2023 among girls ages 9-12 years in after-school programs in the New York metropolitan area (n = 123). Girls were assigned to read a book on puberty and periods or an alternative book on healthy eating.

Despite a varied selection of available trauma-focused evidence-based psychotherapies (TF-EBPs) for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), few veterans receive a full course of an evidence-based treatment. A better understanding of and alignment with veterans' PTSD treatment goals could be one way to improve treatment engagement and adherence, consistent with veteran-oriented care within the U.S.

Associations between physical activity, brain health, cognitive function, and circulating GPLD1 in healthy older (65-85 years) individuals.

Declines in physical and cognitive function are common in older adults. The circulating enzyme glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-specific phospholipase D1 (GPLD1) is elevated after exercise and has been associated with improved cognitive function when administered to aged mice. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between GPLD1 and both cognitive function and brain structure/function in older adults with either high or low levels of physical activity.

Huntington's disease (HD) is caused by a CAG repeat expansion in the HTT gene, leading to altered gene expression. However, the mechanisms leading to disrupted RNA processing in HD remain unclear. Here we identify TDP-43 and the N6-methyladenosine (m6A) writer protein METTL3 to be upstream regulators of exon skipping in multiple HD systems.

Deep brain stimulation and Parkinson disease: a bibliometric and visual analysis (1993-2023).

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) effectively treats Parkinson's disease (PD) motor symptoms, highlighting a gap in understanding current research trends and future directions. This study aims to analyze DBS literature systematically using bibliometric methods to map trends and identify opportunities. A total of 6,041 publications on DBS for PD from 1993 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) on July 24, 2023.

Co-occurring Psychopathology in Children With and Without Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD): Differences by Sex in the ECHO Cohorts.

Purpose: Our goals were to: 1) examine the occurrence of behavioral and emotional symptoms in children on the autism spectrum in a large national sample, stratifying by sex, and 2) evaluate whether children with increased autism-related social communication deficits also experience more behavioral and emotional problems.

Methods:  Participants (n = 7,998) were from 37 cohorts from the Environmental influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) Program. Cross-sectional information on demographic factors, parent-report of an ASD diagnosis by clinician, Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) scores, and Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) scores were obtained for children aged 2.

Clinically meaningful classes of financial toxicity for patients with diabetes.

Aims: This study aims to improve the interpretability and clinical utility of the COmprehensive Score for financial Toxicity-Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy (COST-FACIT) by identifying distinct financial toxicity classes in adults with diabetes.

Methods: Data included a sample of 600 adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes and high A1c. Latent Class Analysis was used to identify subgroups of patients based on COST-FACIT score patterns.

Acceptability of the Fit2ThriveMB mHealth physical activity promotion intervention in women with metastatic breast cancer.

Purpose: Increasing physical activity (PA) is safe and associated with improved health outcomes in patients with metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Mobile health (mHealth) PA interventions that allow for remote monitoring and tailoring to abilities may be particularly useful for MBC patients. However, limited data exist on the acceptability of these interventions for MBC patients.

Kidney Stone Disease (KSD) is a prevalent urological condition, while abdominal obesity is on the rise globally. The conicity index, measuring body fat distribution, is crucial but under-researched in its relation to KSD and all-cause mortality. This study, using data from 59,842 participants in the NHANES (2007-2018), calculated the conicity index from waist circumference, height, and weight.

Peer-Led Adjunctive Interventions for Increasing the Reach of HIV Prevention and Care Interventions to Latino/x/e Men Who Have Sex with Men: a Scoping Review.

Purpose Of Review: Latino/x/e men who have sex with men (LMSM) in the United States are disproportionately affected by HIV. Peer-led adjunctive interventions show promise for enhancing engagement in HIV prevention and care among LMSM, but their effectiveness and implementation remain underexplored. This scoping review aimed to map existing evidence on peer-led interventions, identify gaps, and inform future research for enhancing HIV prevention and care among LMSM.

Association between metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease and gallstones in the US population using propensity score matching.

The novel diagnostic term Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) requires at least one cardiovascular risk factor for diagnosis. While the relationship between gallstones and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) has been debated, the association between MASLD and gallstones remains unclear. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore this relationship using National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) data from 2017 to 2020.

Knockout or inhibition of DHPS suppresses ovarian tumor growth and metastasis by attenuating the TGFβ pathway.

Deoxyhypusine synthase (DHPS) is an enzyme encoded by the DHPS gene, with high expression in various cancers, including ovarian cancer (OC). DHPS regulates the translation initiation factor EIF5A, and EIF5A2 knockout inhibits OC tumor growth and metastasis by blocking the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the TGFβ pathway. In this study, we show that DHPS is amplified in OC patients, and its elevated expression correlates with poor survival.

Ferric carboxymaltose for anemia in late pregnancy: a randomized controlled trial.

Over 46% of African pregnant women are anemic. Oral iron is recommended but often suboptimal, particularly late in pregnancy. Intravenous ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) could treat anemia in women in the third trimester in sub-Saharan Africa.
