Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with a range of non-cognitive symptoms that can be early or even presenting features. Better recognition of pre-diagnostic symptoms of AD would support improved early detection and diagnosis.
Method: To identify possible prodromal symptoms of AD, we systematically searched three electronic databases for prospective longitudinal studies to March 2023, that reported the risk of AD diagnosis associated with non-cognitive symptoms.

Grey matter mean diffusivity (MD) may be used as a measure of early grey matter damage in AD as it reflects the breakdown of microstructural barriers, which precede volumetric changes and affect cognitive function. Background: Patients with behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and right temporal variant frontotemporal dementia (rtvFTD) commonly exhibit abnormal hedonic and other behavioural responses to sounds, however hearing dysfunction in this disorder is poorly characterised. Here we addressed this issue using the Queen Square Tests of Auditory Cognition (QSTAC) - a neuropsychological battery for the systematic assessment of central auditory functions (including pitch pattern perception, environmental sound recognition, sound localisation and emotion processing) in cognitively impaired people.
Method: The QSTAC was administered to 12 patients with bvFTD, 7 patients with rtvFTD and 24 patients with comparator dementia syndromes (primary progressive aphasia and typical Alzheimer's disease) and 15 healthy age-matched individuals.

Background: Cognitive complaints (CC) refer to a reported experience of cognitive decline and are recognized as a potential precursor to future functional decline and progression to dementia. Background: Previous findings evaluating longitudinal cognition in relation to the MeDi diet are inconsistent, and few studies have examined it in relation to the presence/absence of subjective cognitive decline (SCD). Our current aims are to test whether adherence to the MeDi diet is associated with the risk of clinical progression, future cognitive decline, and atrophy over time in Alzheimer's disease (AD)-sensitive regions in cognitively unimpaired (CU) older adults with or without SCD.
Methods: This longitudinal study includes 171 controls and 228 SCD patients recruited from memory clinics in the DELCODE study.

Background: Hearing loss is associated with cognitive and neuroimaging markers of Alzheimer's disease dementia but it is unclear how specific measures relate to these after accounting for a range of hearing abilities.
Method: 200 participants (155 cognitively normal, 25 mild cognitively impaired and 20 Alzheimer's disease dementia) underwent auditory testing (peripheral and central abilities), cognitive testing and MR scanning (structural and diffusion-weighted sequences) to evaluate the relationship between hearing, cognition and imaging brain measures.
Result: Central auditory measures such as speech-in-noise perception and auditory memory for longer durations were associated with cognitive impairment across the Alzheimer's disease continuum and specific auditory measures were independently associated with morphometric and diffusion-weighted brain measures.

We observe an inverse turbulent-wave cascade, from small to large length scales, in a driven homogeneous 2D Bose gas. Starting with an equilibrium condensate, we drive the gas isotropically on a length scale much smaller than its size, and observe a nonthermal population of modes with wavelengths larger than the drive one. At long drive times, the gas exhibits a steady nonthermal momentum distribution.

We study a mixture of extensile and contractile cells using a vertex model extended to include active nematic stresses. The two cell populations phase separate over time. While phase separation strengthens monotonically with an increasing magnitude of contractile activity, the dependence on extensile activity is nonmonotonic, so that sufficiently high values reduce the extent of sorting.

Their goal is to link observed climate change patterns to anthropogenic and natural drivers via the optimal fingerprinting method (OFM). Bilayers of two-dimensional van der Waals materials that lack an inversion center can show a novel form of ferroelectricity, where certain stacking arrangements of the two layers lead to an interlayer polarization. Under an external out-of-plane electric field, a relative sliding between the two layers can occur, accompanied by an interlayer charge transfer and a ferroelectric switching. We show that the domain walls that mediate ferroelectric switching are a locus of strong attractive interactions between electrons.

Background: When assessed in the Mild Behavioral Impairment (MBI) framework, late-life onset psychotic like symptoms (MBI-psychosis) are associated with incident cognitive decline and dementia. One approach to examining the genetic basis of this association, is to use Polygenic Risk Scores (PRS) to determine whether genetic propensity for late-life onset psychosis is shared with other traits. We performed a meta-analysis to compare the cognitive performance of mild cognitive impairment with Lewy bodies (MCI-LB) groups to controls, MCI due to Alzheimer's disease (MCI-AD), and DLB.
Method: Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched the literature for 1) English-language studies on MCI-LB; 2) published January 1990-March 2023, 3) with ≥1 standardized cognitive measure; and 4) comparison data from controls, MCI-AD, and/or DLB.
