Background: Adenomyosis, typically associated with heavy menstrual bleeding and pelvic pain, is rarely linked to neurological complications. This case presents a rare instance of ischemic stroke in a young patient with adenomyosis and vascular abnormalities, underscoring the role of anemia, hypercoagulability, and vascular factors as potential contributors to cerebral infarction.

Case Presentation: We describe a 41-year-old female with a history of adenomyosis who presented with right-sided hemianopia and dizziness following severe menstrual bleeding.

Background: The postpartum period presents critical challenges for new mothers, involving significant physical and emotional adjustments. Traditionally, Chinese culture has addressed this phase through "doing the month," emphasizing rest and specific cultural practices. Modernization in urban China has led to a rise in professional maternal care centers, yet research on women's experiences and expectations in these settings remains limited.

Background: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) frequently occurs following endovascular therapy for acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Given the complexity of predicting AIS clinically, there is a pressing need to develop a preemptive prediction model and investigate the impact of anesthesia depth on AIS.

Methods: A total of 333 patients diagnosed with AIS were included in the study, comprising individuals with non-POCD ( = 232) or POCD ( = 101).

Background: Capsaicin (CAP) induces transient pain sensation by activating transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1). However, the initial neuronal excitation induced by CAP is followed by a prolonged refractory period, resulting in long-lasting analgesia. Although the effects of CAP on microglia in the dorsal root ganglion of neuropathic pain disorders have been reported, the regulatory pathways of CAP on microglia remain poorly defined.

Similarities and differences between chronic primary pain and depression in brain activities: Evidence from resting-state microstates and auditory Oddball task.

Behav Brain Res

February 2025

Department of Neurology, Shanghai Changhai Hospital, 168 Changhai Road, Shanghai 200433,  China; Shanghai United Family Hospital, 699 Pingtang Road, Changning District, Shanghai 200335, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The concept of chronic primary pain (CPP) was introduced in 2019 to describe persistent pain without clear physical causes, often associated with emotional issues like depression.
  • This study used EEG recordings to compare brain activity between healthy individuals, depressed patients, and those with CPP, identifying specific brain patterns related to each group.
  • Results showed that both CPP and major depressive disorder share certain brain abnormalities, but CPP's changes in brain network dynamics differ from those seen in depression, suggesting unique underlying mechanisms and potential for future biomarker development.

Background: We evaluated the diagnostic value of homocysteine (Hcy) levels combined with the Wells score and established a prediction model for venous thromboembolism (VTE) occurrence in patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) based on the Hcy level and the Wells score.

Patients And Methods: Clinical information from 914 patients with AECOPD was retrospectively collected in our hospital from June 2020 to October 2023. Receiver operating characteristic curves were plotted to evaluate the diagnostic ability of Hcy concentrations combined with Wells scores and the prediction ability of the model.

Autonomous mobile clinics (AMCs) have the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery by bringing healthcare services to patients at the order of patient's fingertips. Particularly, AMCs can act as an essential touch point of integrated care, which is a worldwide response to the fragmented delivery of health by focusing on more coordinated and integrated forms of care provision. However, the impact of AMCs on the health satisfaction outcome effectiveness still remains unknown.

  • Prenatal drug use can negatively impact bone health in newborns, leading to conditions like metabolic bone disease (MBD).
  • A study followed 10,801 pregnant women and their infants to analyze the effects of different medication categories on birth outcomes such as prematurity and low birth weight (LBW).
  • The findings revealed that women using certain medications were significantly more likely to have infants with MBD, with LBW being a major mediating factor, indicating that monitoring and preventing adverse birth outcomes is crucial.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compares outcomes of vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) and normal vaginal birth (NVB) in a cohort of 1,024 women at a hospital in China from 2019 to 2020.
  • The VBAC group had an 87.5% success rate and showed higher rates of complications like uterine rupture and postpartum hemorrhage compared to the NVB group, which had a 100% success rate.
  • While VBAC is generally safe, it carries more specific risks, highlighting the need for careful candidate selection and monitoring to improve outcomes.

Lemborexant is a competitive antagonist of dual orexin receptors indicated for the treatment of adult patients with insomnia characterized by difficulties with sleep onset and/or sleep maintenance that occur at least three nights per week for ≥3 months, although there is adequate opportunity for sleep. There has been no published study of its efficacy and safety in treating patients from China with insomnia. In this case report, we present four adult patients from China with insomnia who were successfully treated with add-on lemborexant or switched from benzodiazepines or Z-drugs to lemborexant.

β-cell dedifferentiation in HOMA-βlow and HOMA-βhigh subjects.

J Clin Endocrinol Metab

August 2024

Department of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Shanghai Institute of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Context: β-cell dedifferentiation ratio is increased in type 2 diabetes; but its direct link to in vivo β-cell function in human remains unclear.

Objective: The present study was designed to investigate whether β-cell dedifferentiation in situ was closely associated with β-cell function in vivo and to identify targets crucial for β-cell dedifferentiation/function in human.

Methods: We acquired HOMA-β values, calculated the number of hormone-negative endocrine cells and evaluated important markers and novel candidates for β-cell dedifferentiation/function on paraneoplastic pancreatic tissues from 13 patients with benign pancreatic cystic neoplasm (PCN) or intrapancreatic accessory spleen.
