Abnormal head postures (AHPs) are frequently adopted as compensatory mechanisms by individuals affected by various ocular diseases to optimize the utilization of their visual field or alleviate symptoms such as diplopia. We review the causal relationship between ocular diseases and the resulting AHPs. An extensive literature search was conducted to identify and summarize relevant medical studies providing evidence of AHPs in patients diagnosed with conditions like Duane retraction syndrome, Brown syndrome, superior oblique palsy, and other ocular disorders.

Central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) has multiple associations and risk factors. Of these, psychological stress, corticosteroid treatment, and specific personality traits are well recognized. Other drugs, such as sympathomimetic agents, psychotropic drugs and phosphodiesterase inhibitors, are frequently incriminated.

Iridium(III) complexes, particularly those with piano-stool structures, have drawn a lot of interest recently as possible anticancer drugs. These complexes, which have displayed enhanced cytotoxicity and cytoselectivity compared with clinically approved drugs like cisplatin, oxaliplatin, and carboplatin, hold promising prospects for further anticancer research. Our review aims to explore the complex interplay between cytotoxic properties, cellular uptake efficiency, and intracellular distribution properties of this class of Ir(III) complexes, considering the variation of the coordination site atoms.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the leading causes of cognitive decline, which leads to dementia and poses significant challenges for its therapy. The reason is primarily the ineffective available treatments targeting the underlying pathology of AD. It is a neurodegenerative disease that is mainly characterised by the various molecular pathways contributing to its complex pathology, including extracellular amyloid beta (Aβ) plaques, intracellular neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs), oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation.

Being "between Scylla and Charybdis" is an idiom derived from Greek mythology to mean "between a rock and a hard place" and clinicians managing amyloid light-chain (AL) amyloidosis often find themselves in this predicament. AL amyloidosis is caused by monoclonal light chains, most commonly produced by CD-38 positive plasma cells in target organs. The disease usually involves significant cardiac and/or renal involvement, but the systemic nature of the disease often leads to variable and non-specific manifestations that can critically delay early diagnosis and treatment.

Background: Infectious Bronchitis (IB), caused by the infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), is a significant contagious respiratory disease in the poultry industry. The emergence of new variants represents a global challenge for the diagnosis and control of the disease. Despite vaccination efforts in poultry farms in the Abu Dhabi Emirate, United Arab Emirates (UAE), outbreaks continue to occur, raising concerns about the efficacy of vaccination protocols and the potential emergence of new viral strains.

Background: Polypharmacy is common among hospitalized patients with infectious infections owing to comorbidities or concurrent illnesses. This raises the likelihood of drug-drug interactions and creates uncertainty for healthcare providers. This study aimed to assess the potential drug-drug interactions (pDDIs) among hospitalized patients with infectious diseases in a secondary care hospital.

Methods: A systematic literature review was performed to identify and collect relevant quantitative information on T-lymphocyte counts in human blood and various organs. Both individual subject and grouped (aggregated) data on T-lymphocyte observations in absolute and relative values were digitized and curated; cell phenotypes, gating strategies for flow cytometry analyses, organs from which observations were obtained, subjects' number and age were also systematically inventoried.

A substantial proportion of patients diagnosed with rheumatologic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) exhibit resistance to conventional therapies or experience recurrent symptoms. These diseases, which include autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and systemic lupus erythematosus, are marked by the presence of autoreactive B cells that play a critical role in their pathogenesis. The persistence of these autoreactive B cells within lymphatic organs and inflamed tissues impairs the effectiveness of B-cell-depleting monoclonal antibodies like rituximab.

Background: The epidemiological landscape and treatment efficacy of atrial fibrillation (AF) in the Middle East, notably in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), remain under-explored, presenting a distinct demographic and clinical pattern compared to Western populations. The FLOW-AF Registry aimed to bridge this knowledge gap by examining the characteristics, treatment patterns, clinical outcomes, and healthcare resource utilization (HCRU) of newly diagnosed non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) patients in the UAE, contributing to the scant literature on NVAF management in the region.
Methods: This multicenter, prospective observational study enrolled patients diagnosed with NVAF across six sites in the UAE.

While the assumption that dynamical systems are stationary is common for modeling purposes, in reality, this is rarely the case. Rather, these systems can change over time, a phenomenon referred to as concept drift in the modeling community. While there exist numerous statistics-based methods for concept drift detection on stochastic processes, approaches leveraging nonlinear time series analysis (NTSA) are rarer but seeing increased focus in cases where the processes are deterministic.

This research delves into the performance enhancement of Vertical Axis Wind Turbines (VAWTs) through the innovative approach of variable blade pitching based on Double Multiple Stream Tube theory principles. VAWTs, known for their potential in urban and low-wind environment, often face efficiency and energy yield challenges. This study addresses these challenges by proposing a novel variable blade pitching mechanism that dynamically adapts to changing wind conditions, optimizing the aerodynamic performance, and enhancing the torque and overall performance of VAWT rotor.
