Laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME) has been commonly applied in the operation of mid-low rectal cancer, but the conventional laparoscopic TME has the disadvantages of major operative difficulty and long learning-curve, due to its limitations of 2-dimension vision and common laparoscopic instruments. Robotic surgical system with high-qualified 3-dimenstion vision and flexible Endo Wrist instruments can overcome those limitations of conventional laparoscopy, and is useful for the TME that demands deep pelvic operation and flexible dissection in the space of distal rectum. Robotic TME has the advantages of shorter learning curve and lower conversion rate, and it can even be performed by the surgeon with little laparoscopic experience.

IL-33 is a new member of the IL-1 family that plays a role in inflammation. In this study, we evaluated the potential of IL-33 inhibition as a treatment for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) using the lupus-prone model MRL/lpr mice and the underlying mechanisms of action. We treated mice with anti-mouse IL-33 antibody (anti-IL-33Ab) via intraperitoneal injection every other day from week 14 until week 20 for 6 weeks.

Objective: To elucidate the effect of valsartan on human glomerular mesangial cells oxidative stress and the expression of the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) induced by the advanced glycation end-products (AGEs).
Methods: Human glomerular mesangial cells were treated with advanced glycation end-product-bovine serum albumin (AGE-BSA) in the presence of valsartan. The reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cells were measured by Flow cytometry, and the mRNA of p47 phox, which was the primary subunits of NADPH oxidase, was detected by semi-quantitative reberse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

The human IL-3 receptor is composed of both α and β subunits. In early studies, we showed that the level of IL-3Rβ expression was lower in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) than healthy donors and patients in complete remission by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). With the differentiation of cells, enhanced expression of IL-3Rβ was also observed in all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA)-induced NB4 cells.

In order to investigate the role of calcium pathway in myeloid differentiation, the expression level of genes related to calcium pathway in all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA)-induced NB4 cell differentiation was detected by cDNA microarray, some of which were further confirmed by quantitative real time RT-PCR. At the same time, the expressions of these genes in NB4-R1 cells treated with ATRA and 8-CPT-cAM P alone or in combination, and in differentiation of primary cells from ATRA-induced newly diagnosed APL patients were detected by real time RT-PCR. The results showed that during differentiation of ATRA-induced NB4 cells, the expressions of genes related to calcium concentration had changed, the expression of downstream effectors in calcium pathway was up-regulated and confirmed by real time RT-PCR assay.

Objective: To clone the full-length cDNA of a novel gene related to familial acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) and to demonstrate its molecular mechanisms on the gene level.
Methods: Bone marrow specimen was obtained from a patient of familial AML, male, aged 11, and peripheral blood samples were obtained from 23 AML patients outside this family, 9 normal persons in this family, and 23 normal persons outside this family. Based on the EST sequence zywb87 (GenBank accession number: CV973101) from a subtractive cDNA library of differential expressed genes constructed in familial AML, SMART-rapid amplification of cDNA ends (SMART-RACE) was applied to clone the full-length cDNA of the novel gene, and bioinformatics was used to predict its biological function, the expression of the novel gene in AML was detected by One-Step RT-PCR.
