The insertion of a nonlinear material at the photonic crystal cavity leads to a strong interaction between localized photonic modes and the introduced material's electronic state, leading to exceptionally improved nonlinear optical properties at low input power. We report the enhanced nonlinear absorption and optical limiting properties of C-4-hydroxy-3-methoxphenilcalix[4]resorcinarene (CHMPCR) in a one-dimensional polymeric photonic crystal cavity. Open aperture z-scan measurements with a nanosecond pulsed laser beam having a repetition rate of 10 Hz at 532 nm from a polymeric-based microcavity demonstrate a 4.

Anti-inflammatory activity of endophytic bacterial isolates from Emilia sonchifolia (Linn.) DC.

J Ethnopharmacol

December 2021

Cell Culture Lab, Department of Botany, Union Christian College, Aluva, Ernakulam, Pin-683 102, Kerala, India. Electronic address:

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: In the traditional medicine system, plants have been utilized as a rich source of anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-viral and anti-oxidant compounds. The biological properties of plant-based drugs depend on their interaction with endophytes which persist as an important provider of bioactive secondary metabolites. Bacterial endophytes secrete anti-inflammatory molecules whose activity can be the base for the anti-inflammatory property of the plant.

Noninvasive and Noncontact Sequential Imaging of the Iridocorneal Angle and the Cornea of the Eye.

Transl Vis Sci Technol

April 2020

Centre for Optical and Laser Engineering, School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

Purpose: High-resolution imaging of the critical anatomic structures of the eye, especially of the anterior chamber, in vivo, remains a challenge, even with currently available state-of-the-art medical imaging techniques. This study aims for the noninvasive and noncontact sequential imaging of the iridocorneal angle, especially the trabecular meshwork (TM) and the cornea of the eye in high-resolution using a newly developed imaging platform.

Methods: Bessel beam scanned light sheet fluorescence microscopy is used to attain high-resolution images of the TM.

The potential of optical spectroscopic techniques such as diffused reflectance and fluorescence as non-invasive, in vivo diagnostic tools is being explored and validated recently. In this paper, we present the design and development of a handheld, portable, multimodal fiber optic based probe scheme to sequentially measure diffuse reflectance and fluorescence. The proposed prototype is designed to sequentially acquire diffused reflectance in the broad wavelength range of 400 nm-1600 nm and fluorescence using custom-chosen spectrophotometers, monochromatic and broadband light sources, fibers to accommodate a wide wavelength range, custom-built probe distal end, and a real-time spectral stitching and display unit.
