The parasite causes Chagas' disease; both heme and ionic Fe are required for its optimal growth, differentiation, and invasion. Fe is an essential cofactor in many metabolic pathways. Fe is also harmful due to catalyzing the formation of reactive O species; for this reason, all living systems develop mechanisms to control the uptake, metabolism, and storage of Fe.

Silane-coating strategy has been used to bind biological compounds to the titanium surface, thereby making implant devices biologically active. However, it has not been determined if the presence of the silane coating itself is biocompatible to osseointegration. The aim of the present study was to evaluate if silane-coating affects bone formation on titanium using a rabbit model.

Atrophic maxilla rehabilitation through dental implants is always a challenging procedure. However, alternative approaches such as guided surgery and the installation of short implants are progressively supplanting more invasive bone regeneration procedures. A V-4 technique described in 2016 facilitates the installation of dental implants in patients with atrophic maxilla; however, its authors recommend incision, flap opening, and elevation of the anterior area of the maxillary sinuses.

The ENA ATPases (from : the exit of sodium) belonging to the P-type ATPases are structurally very similar to the sarco/endoplasmic reticulum Ca-ATPase (SERCA); they exchange Na for H and, therefore, are also known as Na-ATPases. ENA ATPases are required in alkaline milieu, as in the case for , where other transporters cannot mediate an uphill Na efflux. They are also important for salt tolerance, as described for .

We describe the retrieval of a dental implant device that had been successfully osseointegrated for more than 4 years. After obtaining an informed patient consent, the device was retrieved for retreatment purposes from its position in a β-tricalcium phosphate (β-TCP) grafted sinus floor. The sinus floor augmentation, using β-TCP, had been performed in conjunction with the original implant placement, which in turn enabled the histological evaluation of specific regions of interest that were comprised of either grafted or native bone.

Erysipelatoid Carcinoma (EC), also known as Inflammatory Metastatic Carcinoma, is a rare form of cutaneous metastasis, secondary to an internal malignancy, more often related to breast cancer. Clinically, the lesion has a well-marked, bound erythematous appearance, much like an infectious process, such as erysipelas and cellulitis, these being the most common differential diagnoses. It is characterized by an acute or subacute appearance with an erythematous plaque, sometimes hot and painful, being more often situated in the primary tumor vicinity, especially in the thorax wall in the region of a mastectomy due to breast cancer.
