Background: The current diagnostic strategy for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection involves a two-step approach: antibody HCV screening followed by confirmatory nucleic acid testing. This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Abbott ARCHITECT HCV Ag assay in serum/plasma samples as a potential one-step alternative for diagnosing active HCV infection in people living with hepatitis B virus (PLWHB) through a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted following PRISMA-DTA guidelines.

Dried blood spot (DBS) sampling is increasingly used for hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening. HCVcAg testing offers a faster and more streamlined approach to diagnosing HCV infection. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the diagnostic performance of the Abbott ARCHITECT HCV Ag assay for screening active HCV infection using DBS samples.

Background: Peripheral neuropathy (PN) constitutes a dose-limiting side effect of oxaliplatin chemotherapy that often compromises the efficacy of antineoplastic treatments. Sensory neurons damage in dorsal root ganglia (DRG) are the cellular substrate of PN complex molecular origin. Dehydropeptidase-1 (DPEP1) inhibitors have shown to avoid platin-induced nephrotoxicity without compromising its anticancer efficiency.

Introduction: Perception and relief of pain exhibit variability among individuals. Age, gender, ethnicity, educational level, actual stress level, mood, or medical conditions can modify the personal interpretation of pain and responses to pharmacological treatment. These differences may play a significant role in the effects, sometimes unwanted, of analgesic treatment.

Pulmonary embolism (PE), the most severe form of presentation of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE), currently represents a foremost healthcare issue due to its high impact in terms of morbidity, mortality, costs, and resource consumption. Early mortality associated with PE is primarily due to hemodynamic instability, exacerbation of pre-existing conditions, or major complications of antithrombotic therapies. Beyond the risk of death, there are relevant complications related to PE, such as bleedings, VTE recurrences, and persistence of residual respiratory symptoms; the latter complication related to PE is mainly characterized by two entities, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and chronic thromboembolic disease.

Although phosphorus is an essential element for life, it is not found in nature in its native state but rather combined in the form of inorganic phosphates (PO), with tightly regulated plasma levels that are associated with deleterious effects and mortality when these are out of bounds. The growing interest in the accumulation of PO in human pathophysiology originated in its attributed role in the pathogenesis of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in chronic kidney disease. In this article, we review the mechanisms by which this effect was justified and we commemorate the important contribution of a Spanish group led by Dr.
