A Sprague-Dawley rat model was utilized to elucidate perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) toxicokinetics with a goal of developing an in vivo approach for quantifying PFAS relative bioavailability in impacted soil. Following single dose administration (gavage) of ∼ 0.2-2000 µg kg BW of PFOA, PFOS or PFHxS, differences in PFAS blood, organ and excreta concentrations were observed over 120 h although linear dose responses were determined for area under the blood plasma time curves (AUC; PFOA, PFHxS), liver accumulation (LA: PFOS) and urinary excretion (UE; PFOA, PFHxS).

Background: The application of digital technologies has shown benefits in enhancing pharmacovigilance activities but consumers views on the use of these tools for this purpose are not well described.
Aim: To explore consumers' views on using digital tools to report adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and identify key features that consumers want in digital tools for ADR reporting.
Method: An online survey was conducted among adults who had taken medicine in the previous six-months in Australia.

Background: The evolving nature of nursing practice necessitates the development and implementation of contemporary models of care; however, inconsistent definitions hinder this. With the increasing demand for nurse-led models of care, it is crucial to establish a consistent understanding to ensure the efficacy of implemented models.
Aim: We aim to provide a working definition for nursing models of care, then using this, present the key features that nurse-led models of care should consider.

Multidimensional host and viral factors determine the clinical course of COVID-19. While the virology of the disease is well studied, investigating host-related factors, including genome, transcriptome, metabolome, and exposome, can provide valuable insights into the underlying pathophysiology. We conducted integrative omics analyses to explore their intricate interplay in COVID-19.

Abiraterone acetate, a prodrug of abiraterone, is an effective antiandrogen for treating metastatic prostate cancer. However, its poor aqueous solubility restricts oral bioavailability to under 10% in fasted conditions. Additionally, its pharmacokinetics are significantly influenced by food intake, leading to variable exposure that can impact treatment safety and efficacy.

Background: Childhood height is commonly used to measure children's health and nutritional status. It is used to define stunting, where a child is considered stunted if their height is shorter than two standard deviations below the Child Growth Standards median. Studies have shown that genetic and environmental factors contribute to childhood height, so understanding these contributions is important for stunting research.

Purpose: To characterize the diagnostic and clinical outcomes of a cohort of critically ill infants and children with suspected mitochondrial disorders (MD) undergoing ultrarapid genomic testing as part of a national program.
Methods: Ultrarapid genomic sequencing was performed in 454 families (genome sequencing: n = 290, exome sequencing +/- mitochondrial DNA sequencing: n = 164). In 91 individuals, MD was considered, prompting analysis using an MD virtual gene panel.

Oxytocin is a key hormone in the transition to motherhood. The maternal endogenous oxytocin system facilitates many physiological and biological adaptations, including breastfeeding, maternal wellbeing, and brain plasticity. Additionally, maternal endogenous oxytocin works as a finetuned orchestrator prior to, during, and after the birth of a child to support birth progression and mother-infant bonding.

Immunoglobulin G (IgG) comprises a significant portion of the protein corona that forms on biomaterial surfaces and holds a pivotal role in modulating host immune responses. To shed light on the important relationship between biomaterial surface functionality, IgG adsorption, and innate immune responses, we prepared, using plasma deposition, four surface coatings with specific chemistries, wettability, and charge. We found that nitrogen-containing coatings such as these deposited from allylamine (AM) and 2-methyl-2-oxazoline (POX) cause the greatest IgG unfolding, while hydrophilic acrylic acid (AC) surfaces allowed for the retention of the protein structure.

Nanomedicines have created a paradigm shift in healthcare. Yet fundamental barriers still exist that prevent or delay the clinical translation of nanomedicines. Critical hurdles inhibiting clinical success include poor understanding of nanomedicines' physicochemical properties, limited exposure in the cell or tissue of interest, poor reproducibility of preclinical outcomes in clinical trials, and biocompatibility concerns.

Micronuclei (MN) are a nuclear abnormality that occurs when chromosome fragments or whole chromosomes are not properly segregated during mitosis and consequently are excluded from the main nuclei and wrapped within nuclear membrane to form small nuclei. This maldistribution of genetic material leads to abnormal cellular genomes which may increase risk of developmental defects, cancers, and accelerated aging. Despite the potential importance of MN as biomarkers of genotoxicity, very little was known about the optimal way to measure MN in humans, the normal ranges of values of MN in healthy humans and the prospective association of MN with developmental and degenerative diseases prior to the 1980's.

Background: Enterobacter species are included among the normal human gut microflora and persist in a diverse range of other environmental niches. They have become important opportunistic nosocomial pathogens known to harbour plasmid-mediated multi-class antimicrobial resistance (AMR) determinants. Global AMR surveillance of Enterobacterales isolates shows the genus is second to Klebsiella in terms of frequency of carbapenem resistance.

Objective: To identify evidence reporting on nurse practitioners working in aged care in Australia and to categorise the reported factors found to be barriers or facilitators to operation in terms of establishment, sustainability, and expansion.
Introduction: Nurse practitioners work in a variety of aged care contexts throughout Australia but are underutilised and uncommon. Despite evidence for their effectiveness, it is unclear what barriers or enabling factors contribute to the successful and sustainable implementation of nurse practitioners working in this sector.

Genetic heterogeneity in ovarian cancer indicates the need for personalised treatment approaches. Currently, very few G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) have been investigated for active targeting with nanomedicines such as antibody-conjugated drugs and drug-loaded nanoparticles, highlighting a neglected potential to develop personalised treatment. To address the genetic heterogeneity of ovarian cancer, a future personalised approach could include the identification of unique GPCRs expressed in cancer biopsies, matched with personalised GPCR-targeted nanomedicines, for the delivery of lethal drugs to tumour tissue before, during and after surgery.
