Within the confinements of critical infrastructures, the COVID-19 pandemic is posing a series of challenges to Health Management. In the spotlight of highly contagious and quick spreading diseases within such enclosed facilities, whether it be a detention facility or otherwise, the health and safety of those living within its internment is paramount. This paper aims to highlight the specific challenges and the possible solutions to counteract this problem, starting from the lessons learnt from the Italian prison system case study.

Background: One goal of orthodontic treatment in mixed dentition is to expand the maxillary arch to allow proper tooth alignment and a correction of sagittal and vertical malocclusions. However, for most treatment protocols, expected outcome is not really clear to allow for a standardization of phase I orthodontic treatments. This lack of information makes it difficult for clinicians to predict tooth movements, including transverse expansion efficacy with Invisalign® (Align Technology, Santa Clara, CA, USA) in children.

Nearly 40-50% of infertility problems are estimated to be of female origin. Previous studies dedicated to the analysis of metabolites in follicular fluid (FF) produced contrasting results, although some valuable indexes capable to discriminate control groups (CTRL) from infertile females (IF) and correlate with outcome measures of assisted reproduction techniques were in some instances found. In this study, we analyzed in blind FF of 35 control subjects (CTRL = patients in which inability to obtain pregnancy was exclusively due to a male factor) and 145 IF (affected by: endometriosis, = 19; polycystic ovary syndrome, = 14; age-related reduced ovarian reserve, = 58; reduced ovarian reserve, = 29; unexplained infertility, = 14; genetic infertility, = 11) to determine concentrations of 55 water- and fat-soluble low molecular weight compounds (antioxidants, oxidative/nitrosative stress-related compounds, purines, pyrimidines, energy-related metabolites, and amino acids).

Purpose: Near infrared spectroscopy-Intravascular ultrasound (NIRS-IVUS) provide a fully automated Lipid Core Burden Index (LCBI). Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is potentially capable of measuring lipid longitudinal extension in a dedicated two-dimensional LCBI spread-out plot. The present study has been designed to validate an automated approach to assess OCT images, able of providing a dedicated LCBI spread-out plot.

It has been proposed that a "common core" of pathologic pathways exists for the large family of amyloid-associated neurodegenerations, including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, type II diabetes and Creutzfeldt-Jacob's Disease. Aggregates of the involved proteins, independently from their primary sequence, induced neuron membrane permeabilization able to trigger an abnormal Ca influx leading to synaptotoxicity, resulting in reduced expression of synaptic proteins and impaired synaptic transmission. Emerging evidence is now focusing on low-molecular-weight prefibrillar oligomers (PFOs), which mimic bacterial pore-forming toxins that form well-ordered oligomeric membrane-spanning pores.

Sjögren's Syndrome (SS) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease. It is considered a multifactorial pathology, in which underlying genetic predisposition, epigenetic mechanisms and environmental factors contribute to development. The epigenetic regulations represent a link between genetic predisposition and environmental factors.

Niemann-Pick type C (NPC) disease is an autosomal recessive storage disorder, characterized by abnormal sequestration of unesterified cholesterol in the late endo-lysosomal system of cells. Progressive neurological deterioration and the onset of symptoms, such as ataxia, seizures, cognitive decline, and severe dementia, are pathognomonic features of the disease. In addition, different pathological similarities, including degeneration of hippocampal and cortical neurons, hyperphosphorylated tau, and neurofibrillary tangle formation, have been identified between NPC disease and other neurodegenerative pathologies.

Human behavior is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) is among the most investigated genetic determinants of violent behaviors, while the monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) is explored in Parkinson's disease. We collected twenty-four post-mortem brain tissue datasets of 3871 and 1820 non-demented males and females, respectively, who died from causes not attributable to neurodegenerative diseases.

Advances in image processing and computer hardware have enabled the development of user-friendly software which operate in real-time and can be used in the catheterization laboratory to facilitate percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). The two dimensional-(2D) quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) systems that have traditionally been used to assess lesion severity have been replaced by 3D-QCA systems, enabling more reliable evaluation of vessel geometry and lesion dimensions. This also allows 3D reconstruction of coronary bifurcation anatomy and generation of models that can be processed by computational fluid dynamic techniques to reliably detect flow-limiting lesions.

Background: The ZBTB16-RARA fusion gene, resulting from the reciprocal translocation between ZBTB16 on chromosome 11 and RARA genes on chromosome 17 [t(11;17)(q23;q21)], is rarely observed in acute myeloid leukemia (AML), and accounts for about 1% of retinoic acid receptor-α (RARA) rearrangements. AML with this rare translocation shows unusual bone marrow (BM) morphology, with intermediate aspects between acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) and AML with maturation. Patients may have a high incidence of disseminated intravascular coagulation at diagnosis, are poorly responsive to all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) and arsenic tryoxyde, and are reported to have an overall poor prognosis.

Objective: We aimed to analyse the prevalence of non-criteria anti-phospholipid (aPL) antibodies and their role in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis in a cohort of patients with clinical features consistent with a diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), but persistently negative for criteria aPL - anti-cardiolipin antibodies (aCL), anti-β2-glycoprotein I antibodies (aβ2-GPI) and lupus anticoagulant (LA) - named seronegative APS (SN-APS).
Methods: Sera from SN-APS patients were tested for aCL by TLC-immunostaining, anti-vimentin/cardiolipin (aVim/CL) and anti-phosphatidylserine/prothrombin (anti-PS/PT) by ELISA. Control groups of our study were APS patients and healthy controls.
