MFCC Parameters of the Speech Signal: An Alternative to Formant-Based Instantaneous Vocal Tract Length Estimation.

J Voice

June 2023

Escuela de Ing. Eléctrica, Electrónica y de Telecomunicaciones (E3T), Universidad Industrial de Santander, Bucaramanga, Colombia.

On the one hand, the relationship between formant frequencies and vocal tract length (VTL) has been intensively studied over the years. On the other hand, the connection involving mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs), which concisely codify the overall shape of a speaker's spectral envelope with just a few cepstral coefficients, and VTL has only been modestly analyzed, being worth of further investigation. Thus, based on different statistical models, this article explores the advantages and disadvantages of the latter approach, which is relatively novel, in contrast to the former which arises from more traditional studies.

Center for Research and Drug Development (NPDM), Federal University of Ceara, Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil; Post-Graduate Program in Translational Medicine, Federal University of Ceara, Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil; Post-Graduate Program of Pathology, Federal University of Ceara, Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil; Post-Graduate Program in Medical Science, Federal University of Ceara, Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil.

Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) biomarkers can be used to help diagnose and monitor the disease, as well as to determine which treatments are most effective. So, given the complexity of Myelodysplastic neoplasm (MDS), it is difficult to determine the impact and disparities of DEGs between CD34 HSC (hematopoietic stem cells) or primary bone marrow cells (PBMC) in MDS pathogenesis, and therefore it remains largely unknown. Here, we performed an in-silico transcriptome analysis on CD34 HSC and PBMC from 1092 MDS patients analyzing the divergences between differential gene expression patterns in these two cell types as potential pathogenic biomarkers for MDS.

We use data-driven physical simulations to study the three-dimensional architecture of the Aedes aegypti genome. Hi-C maps exhibit both a broad diagonal and compartmentalization with telomeres and centromeres clustering together. Physical modeling reveals that these observations correspond to an ensemble of 3D chromosomal structures that are folded over and partially condensed.

Centro de Ciências Naturais e Humanas, Universidade Federal do ABC - UFABC, Bloco Delta, Sala 241, Rua Arcturus, 03, Jardim Antares, São Bernardo Do Campo, SP, 09606-070, Brazil. Electronic address:

In termites, the maturation of the female reproductive system is progressive following post-embryonic development. In Silvestritermes euamignathus, the imaginal line is characterized by five nymphal instars that develop into the imago, but it can deviate in some instars to neotenic reproductives. In order to understand the rate of development of the female reproductive system throughout post-embryonic development, we analyzed the morphology of the reproductive system of nymphs, characterizing the stage of development and comparing it with neotenics and primary queens.

This work describes the synthesis, characterization and in vitro anticancer activity of two platinum(II) complexes of the type [Pt(L1)(1,10-phen)] 1 and [Pt(L2)(1,10-phen)] 2, where L1 = 5-heptyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-(3H)-thione, L2 = 5-nonyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole-2-(3H)-thione and 1,10-phen = 1,10-phenanthroline. As to the structure of these complexes, the X-ray structural analysis of 1 indicates that the geometry around the platinum(II) ion is distorted square-planar, where two 5-alkyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-thione derivatives coordinate a platinum(II) ion through the sulfur atom. A chelating bidentate phenanthroline molecule completes the coordination sphere.
