Background: The technology to recognize nucleated red blood cells (NRBC) automatically has only recently been developed. Modern hematology analyzers allow for rapid and accurate NRBC counts. The goal of our study was to evaluate NRBC counts and the concentrations of serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) in patients affected by different thalassemia syndromes and hereditary spherocytosis.

Proper examination of radical prostatectomy (RP) specimens by the pathologists is critical in accurately determining the prediction of patient outcome. The pathology report should include relevant clinical information as well as provide prognostically useful data derived from the evaluation of the RP specimen.

The feedback between metabolic acid production and dialytic base gain ensures a neutral acid-base balance in patients on renal replacement therapy (RRT). Despite acid not accumulating continuously, clinical studies demonstrated that normalizing pre-dialysis serum bicarbonate results in nutritional and osteodystrophy improvements. Full correction of acidosis is not an easy task in dialysis patients because it depends on both some intrinsic characteristics of patients and dialysis prescriptions.

The increase in prostate cancer detection has induced a sharp increase in the number of radical prostatectomies Proper examination of radical prostatectomy (RP) specimens by pathologists is critical in determining the need for adjuvant treatment and prediction of patient outcome. The pathology report should include relevant clinical information as well as provide prognostically useful information derived from the macroscopic examination and microscopic evaluation of the RP specimen

Prostate cancer (PCa) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in men, accounting for approximately 30% of all new cases of cancer and approximately 14% of cancer deaths. Despite considerable advances achieved in the ability to detect and treat PCa, there have not been significant corresponding decreases in PCa-related morbidity and mortality. Proper examination of prostate biopsy specimens by pathologists is critical in determining the type of treatment and predicting patient outcome.
