Introduction: While improved medical and surgical care for children with pina bifida has improved their survival, some may have lower cognitive, behavioral and educational performance. The paper assesses the effect of spina bifida on cognitive, behavioral, and educational outcomes in 5-11 year olds.

Electrification is potentially the most efficient method of decarbonization of space, water, and in certain instances, process heating through the deployment of electrically driven heat pumps. However, challenges are noted in terms of electricity network capacity that ultimately must influence a holistic approach to building/process heating demand reductions which in turn must influence heat pump development, heat pump operations, heat pump capital cost, and the role of thermal storage. Approaches to these challenges are presented from a global and, a UK and Ireland perspective, as for the UK and Ireland, it is often muted that the electricity network is less well suited to addressing the electrification of heating.

Entomology is key to understanding terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems at a time of unprecedented anthropogenic environmental change and offers substantial untapped potential to benefit humanity in a variety of ways, from improving agricultural practices to managing vector-borne diseases and inspiring technological advances.We identified high priority challenges for entomology using an inclusive, open, and democratic four-stage prioritisation approach, conducted among the membership and affiliates (hereafter 'members') of the UK-based Royal Entomological Society (RES).A list of 710 challenges was gathered from 189 RES members.

  • Ten highly trained apnoeists were tested under two conditions: one with low oxygen and high carbon dioxide, and another with high oxygen and high carbon dioxide.
  • Results showed that prolonged apnoea increased blood flow to the brain, but this was not enough to maintain normal rates of oxygen and glucose consumption, indicating increased oxidative stress.

Objective: To develop an international consensus statement to advise on designing, delivering and evaluating sport-based interventions (SBIs) aimed at promoting social, psychological and physical well-being in prison.

Design: Modified Delphi using two rounds of survey questionnaires and two consensus workshops.

Participants: A multidisciplinary panel of more than 40 experts from 15 international jurisdictions was formed, including representation from the following groups and stakeholders: professionals working in the justice system; officials from sport federations and organisations; academics with research experience of prisons, secure forensic mental health settings and SBIs; and policy-makers in criminal justice and sport.

This study proposes a design approach and the development of a low-power planar biped robot named YU-Bibot. The kinematic structure of the robot consists of six independently driven axes, and it weighs approximately 20 kg. Based on biomimetics, the robot dimensions were selected as the average anthropomorphic dimensions of the human lower extremities.

High intensity exercise can enhance the production of reactive oxygen and nitrogen free radical species, which may cause a number of perturbations to cellular integrity, including deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) modification. In the absence of adequate DNA repair, it is theoretically possible that several biological disorders may ensue, in addition to premature aging. This striking hypothesis and supposition can only be realized in the presence of sound methodology for the quantification of DNA damage and repair.
