Climate Change, Pollution, Deforestation, and Mental Health: Research Trends, Gaps, and Ethical Considerations.

Climate change, pollution, and deforestation have a negative impact on global mental health. There is an environmental justice dimension to this challenge as wealthy people and high-income countries are major contributors to climate change and pollution, while poor people and low-income countries are heavily affected by the consequences. Using state-of-the art data mining, we analyzed and visualized the global research landscape on mental health, climate change, pollution and deforestation over a 15-year period.

Background: During the intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration process, initial degenerative events occur at the extracellular matrix level, with the appearance of neoepitope peptides formed by the cleavage of aggrecan and collagen. This study aims to elucidate the spatial and temporal alterations of aggrecan and collagen neoepitope level during IVD degeneration.

Short-term effects of a novel bronchial drainage device: A pilot cohort study in subjects with cystic fibrosis.

Background And Aims: In cystic fibrosis (CF) airways, impaired airway mucociliary clearance and mucus accumulation due to cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator defects contribute to inflammation, progressive structural lung damage, and decline of lung function. Physiotherapy is essential to promote mucus mobilization and removal in CF and is a key element of rehabilitation measures, but conventional techniques may be suboptimal to mobilize viscous mucus. This study aimed to test the specific effects of a novel bronchial drainage device (BDD) (Simeox®; PhysioAssist) in subjects with CF and evaluate lung function, diaphragm mobility, and sputum properties.

Immunohistochemical analysis of sex hormone receptors in squamous changes of the urothelium.

Objective: Squamous cell transformation of the urinary bladder urothelium has various causes, symptoms, and few treatment options. The aim of this study was to analyze and compare the expression of sex hormone receptors in non-keratinized and keratinized squamous metaplasia (NKSM, KSM), squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and healthy urothelium with regard to possible therapeutic approaches.

Methods: Biopsies from 26 patients with urothelial NKSM, KSM, and SCC were analyzed retrospectively.

Maintaining intimacy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The present study investigated whether autobiographical memories serve to maintain feelings of intimacy in times of social isolation that result from the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Data came from 104 young and older adults who reported three important and three social memories, that is, memories about someone the participants were unable to meet because of the pandemic-related restrictions. Our findings support that social memories more frequently serve intimacy functions than important memories do, and this difference is more pronounced for older compared to young adults.

The genomic and transcriptional landscape of primary central nervous system lymphoma.

Primary lymphomas of the central nervous system (PCNSL) are mainly diffuse large B-cell lymphomas (DLBCLs) confined to the central nervous system (CNS). Molecular drivers of PCNSL have not been fully elucidated. Here, we profile and compare the whole-genome and transcriptome landscape of 51 CNS lymphomas (CNSL) to 39 follicular lymphoma and 36 DLBCL cases outside the CNS.

We detected SARS-CoV-2 antibodies using red cells coated by Kode technology with short peptides derived from the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (SP). Such modified red cells, called C19-kodecytes, can be used as reagent cells in any manual or automated column agglutination assay.

Sex Differences in Recovery and Device Replacement After Left Ventricular Assist Device Implantation as Destination Therapy.

Background The relevance of sex and preimplant factors for clinical outcomes among patients with left ventricular assist devices intended for destination therapy is unclear. Methods and Results INTERMACS (Interagency Registry for Mechanically Assisted Circulatory Support) data (2006-2017) from 6771 men and 1690 women with left ventricular assist devices as destination therapy were analyzed to evaluate the contribution of preimplant clinical, demographic, and clinically judged psychosocial characteristics to time until death, heart transplant, device explant due to recovery, or complication-related device replacement. Associations of sex with time until each competing outcome were evaluated using cumulative incidence functions and event-specific Cox proportional hazards models.

Extracranial malignant rhabdoid tumors (extracranial MRT) are rare, highly aggressive malignancies affecting mainly infants and children younger than 3 years. Common anatomic sites comprise the kidneys (RTK - rhabdoid tumor of kidney) and other soft tissues (eMRT - extracranial, extrarenal malignant rhabdoid tumor). The genetic origin of these diseases is linked to biallelic pathogenic variants in the genes , or rarely , encoding subunits of the SWI/SNF chromatin-remodeling complex.

Risk factors for problematic smartphone use (PSU) have rapidly become an important area of research due to the prevalence of smartphones and functional impairment associated with PSU. Large B-cell lymphoma with IRF4 rearrangement, and Burkitt-like lymphoma with 11q aberration are two provisional lymphoma entities in the 2017 revision of the WHO classification of lymphoid neoplasms. Despite being more frequent in young patients, knowledge regarding their true incidence and clinical features in unselected cohorts of paediatric and adolescent patients is limited. We screened for both entities among paediatric patients (<18 years of age) in the German NHL-BFM (Non-Hodgkin lymphoma Berlin-Frankfurt-Münster) group.

Background: Bronchoscopic cryobiopsy is a new method of bronchoscopic tissue sampling in interstitial lung disease. In case of transbronchial biopsies, the resultant tissue samples are of high quality, and the lung parenchyma seen in the samples is adequate for a histological diagnosis in most cases. Bleeding after transbronchial biopsy is the most important procedure- associated complication and may be life threatening.

Repeat Measurements of High Sensitivity Troponins for the Prediction of Recurrent Cardiovascular Events in Patients With Established Coronary Heart Disease: An Analysis From the KAROLA Study.

Background High-sensitivity cardiac troponins T and I (hs- cTnT and hs- cTnI ) are established biomarkers for myocardial injury and used for diagnostic and prognostic purposes. However, whether repeat measurements improve prediction of recurrent cardiovascular disease ( CVD ) events in patients with stable coronary heart disease ( CHD ) after adjustment for several other novel biomarkers remains unclear. Methods and Results We measured both troponins in 873 coronary heart disease patients from the KAROLA (Langzeiterfolge der Kardiologischen Anschlussheilbehandlung) study about 9 weeks after their initial acute event (baseline) and after 12 months, followed them for 12 years, assessed a combined CVD end point, and adjusted for several risk factors.
