Fish from the north-east Atlantic, including neighbouring aquens are host of 3 species of Branchiura, 163 Copepoda, 37 Isopoda, 2 Amphipoda, and 1 of parasitic Cirripedia. Chondrichthyes have more species of parasitic crustaceans than Osteichthyes. Many specific parasites of Osteichthyes and the facultative parasites of fish include species of crustaceans to fish of both classes.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe direct inheritance as a possible etiologic factor of Balkan endemic nephropathy (BEN) has been studied in an endemic area in the district of Slavonski Brod (Croatia-Yugoslavia). The basis for the investigation was given by a natural experiment induced by immigration of people from Ukraina to the endemic and nonendemic areas near Slavonski Brod. 1,536 persons in endemic villages and 733 inhabitants from the villages, where BEN has not been found, were studied with the aim of establishing diagnosis or excluding BEN.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFTwo strains of influenza virus, A/wagtail/Ukraina/107/74 and A/dove/Ukraina/111/74, were isolated in virological studies of semisynanthropic species of birds shot near villages in the Rovno region (Western Ukraine). Both strains were found to be antigenically identical with influenza A/England/42/72 virus.
