Supracondylar extra-articular femur fracture after cementless unicompartmental knee replacement: A rare complication.

This case report defines an infrequent complication of unicompartmental knee replacement. Periprosthetic supracondylar femoral fracture after total knee replacement is a challenging problem for orthopedic surgeon. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only case describing periprosthetic supracondylar femoral fracture after unicondylar knee replacement.

The effect of calcineurin inhibitors on anthropometric measurements in kidney transplant recipients.

Background: This study was designed to investigate the effect of calcineurin inhibitors (CNIs), cyclosporine (CsA), and tacrolimus (Tac) on anthropometrics in kidney transplant recipients.

Methods: 111 of 128 adult kidney transplant recipients who received post-transplant CNIs were included in this retrospective study. Anthropometrics were recorded in the pre-transplant and post-transplant 4-year follow-up periods (1, 3, 6, 12, 24, 36 and 48 months).

The association between total cholesterol and cognitive impairment in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients.

Aim: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is primarily a respiratory system disorder associated with extrapulmonary conditions. Cognitive impairment (CoI) is very common among COPD patients This study sought to investigate the association between CoI and clinical parameters, inflammatory markers and lipid profiles in a COPD patient population.

Background: Hip ultrasonography is very important in the early diagnosis of developmental dysplasia of the hip. The application of deep learning-based medical image analysis to computer-aided diagnosis has the potential to provide decision-making support to clinicians and improve the accuracy and efficiency of various diagnostic and treatment processes. This has encouraged new research and development efforts in computer-aided diagnosis.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease phenotypes in Turkey: the COPET study-a national, multicenter cross-sectional observational study.

Background: While mortality rates decrease in many chronic diseases, it continues to increase in COPD. This situation has led to the need to develop new approaches such as phenotypes in the management of COPD. We aimed to investigate the distribution, characteristics and treatment preference of COPD phenotypes in Turkey.

Background: The aim of this study was to determine whether sirtuin-1 (SIRT1), which has a regulatory role in glucose and lipid metabolism with its deacetylase activity, has a decisive role in predicting gestational diabetes (GDM).

Methods: This study was performed at the antenatal outpatient clinic of Ankara City Hospital between January 2021 and May 2021. A total of 525 women with low-risk pregnancy underwent the 75 g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) between 24-28 weeks of pregnancy during the study period.

Background And Aim: Visceral adiposity index (VAI) is reportedly beneficial in predicting cardiovascular disease (CVD) and metabolic syndrome (MetS). However, long-term studies analyzing the efficacy of VAI in the prediction of CVD risk are limited. The relationship between VAI and electrolytes is unclear.

Adjustable bone plate: from bench to operating room.

Background/aim: We have designed an adjustable bone plate (ABP) which allows bone shortening and lengthening after fixation, which is a property not present in any of the plate systems available today. The aim of the current study was to examine the new ABP's segmental bone transfer capability for the treatment of a segmental bone defect in an animal model.

Materials And Methods: Five sheep had ABPs attached to 10 of their tibias and bone defects of 15 mm in size were created.

Evaluation of Exudative Pleural Effusions: A Multicenter, Prospective, Observational Study.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the diagnostic performances of pleural procedures in undiagnosed exudative pleural effusions and to evaluate factors suggestive of benign or malignant pleural effusions in tertiary care centers.

Methods: This was a multicenter prospective observational study conducted between January 1 and December 31, 2018. A total of 777 patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion after the initial work-up were evaluated.

We prospectively included 97 consecutive participants who underwent rhinoplasty.

Method: Studies published between January 1, 2008 and December 31, 2017 were comprehensively searched to 14 databases. Quality Assessment Tool for Quantitative Studies was used to examine the methodological quality of the included studies.

Oral, vaginal or intramuscular progesterone in programmed frozen embryo transfer cycles: a pilot randomized controlled trial.

Research Question: What should be the optimal route of luteal support in programmed frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles?

Design: This was a randomized, parallel, phase IV pilot trial with three groups of women undergoing FET along with hormone replacement therapy for endometrial preparation at a tertiary private IVF centre (NCT03948022). Women with at least one autologous cryopreserved blastocyst were included. After preparing the endometrium with oestradiol, 151 women were randomly assigned to one of the following three progesterone arms before embryo transfer: oral (10 mg) dydrogesterone (DYD), total daily dose 40 mg (n = 52); 8% (90 mg) progesterone vaginal gel (VAG), total daily dose 180 mg (n = 55); or intramuscular progesterone (IMP) 50 mg/ml in oil, total daily dose 100 mg (n = 44).

The association of antiviral drugs with COVID-19 morbidity: The retrospective analysis of a nationwide COVID-19 cohort.

Background And Objectives: Although several repurposed antiviral drugs have been used for the treatment of COVID-19, only a few such as remdesivir and molnupiravir have shown promising effects. The objectives of our study were to investigate the association of repurposed antiviral drugs with COVID-19 morbidity.

Effect of Topical Anesthesia on Reducing Pain Associated with Mydriatic Eye Drops during Retinopathy of Prematurity Screening.

Introduction: The study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of topical anesthetic drops in reducing the pain associated with mydriatic eye drops prior to the retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) examination.

Methods: Premature infants who underwent first-time ROP examinations in an outpatient setting were included in this randomized controlled trial. The study group included the infants who were administered topical anesthesia prior to the first mydriatic drops, and the control group included the infants who were given preservative-free artificial tear drops.

It is pointed out that the attachment styles of spouses are also very important in terms of coping with the psychological problems experienced in illness and sexual satisfaction. The research was carried out as a descriptive study based on the relational screening model between January and November 2021.

Effects of thiostrepton alone or in combination with selumetinib on triple-negative breast cancer metastasis.

Objective: FoxM1 transcription factor contributes to tumor metastasis and poor prognosis in many cancers including triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). In this study, we examined the effects of FoxM1 inhibitor Thiostrepton (THIO) alone or in combination with MEK inhibitor Selumetinib (SEL) on metastatic parameters in vitro and in vivo.

Defining the experiences of adolescent patients with multiple sclerosis in transition from pediatric care to adult care.

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the experiences of patients aged 18-24 years who were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis before the age of eighteen, during the transition from pediatric care to adult care.

Methods: This research was in the type of phenomenological qualitative research. Focus group interviews were conducted between December 2020 and October 2021 with seventeen participants who had been diagnosed with multiple before the age of eighteen, aged 18-24, voluntarily having agreed to participate in the study.

Beliefs About Medicines and Adherence to Treatment in Turkish Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Background: Although studies are investigating the perception and beliefs about treatment and adherence to treatment in different societies related to inflammatory bowel disease, there are no studies on this subject in Turkish people with different sociocultural structures. In our study, we aimed to evaluate the beliefs about treatment and its effect on adherence to treatment in the Turkish population with inflammatory bowel disease.

Methods: In the study, the "Medication Adherence Report Scale" and "Beliefs about Medicines Scale" scales were used to evaluate the treatment compliance and perception and beliefs about treatment.
