Background: History has paid little attention to the childbirth of Marie Louise, second wife to the Emperor Napoleon I. Most historians state that the obstetrician Antoine Dubois needed to use his forceps during a difficult breech delivery. As practicing obstetricians we aimed to reconstruct the likely course of events using a forensic approach.

Hypoparathyroidism during pregnancy is a very rare endocrine disorder. The majority of cases are postsurgical (75%). Managing pregnant or nursing women with hypoparathyroidism is challenging due to complications arising from either under- or overtreatment, including premature delivery or fetal death, abortion, stillbirth, perinatal death, and neonatal tetany.

Background Fetal red blood cells (FRBC) in maternal blood are counted in rhesus-negative women to determine the amount of anti-D immunoglobulin to be administered in the case of a rhesus-positive fetus. In rhesus-positive pregnant women this is done in not always very well-defined indications including trauma, miscarriage, fetal death and diminished fetal movements. The aim of this study is to determine if the detection of FRBC is useful in rhesus-positive pregnant woman.

Background: Cervical Cancer (CC) is a major public health problem in DR Congo; the high incidence of CC is due to the inexistence of effective screening programs based on cytology and/or HPV detection followed by appropriate treatments. This situation highlights the need to implement efficacious and inexpensive treatment methods. This study aims at evaluating the efficacy of a topical antiviral drug named AV2 as a treatment for HPV-associated lesions of the cervix.

Background: Uterine fibroids (UFs) may be treated with progesterone receptor modulators (PRMs), which have been shown to reduce heavy menstrual bleeding and the size of UFs. To date, one PRM (ulipristal acetate) has received regulatory approval for the treatment of UFs; therapy comprises intermittent treatment courses of up to 3months each, followed by a break to allow two menstruations to occur. We report the design of ASTEROID (Assess Safety and efficacy of vilaprisan in patients with uTERine fibrOIDs) 2, a phase 2 study examining the efficacy and safety of a novel PRM, vilaprisan, in women with UFs.
