Introduction: Mechanical thrombectomy (MT) efficacy in medium vessel occlusion (MeVO) stroke, particularly in patients with low Alberta Stroke Program Early Computed Tomography Score (ASPECTS), remains less explored.
Methods: This retrospective study analyzed data from 443 AIS patients treated with MT for MeVO and low ASPECTS (4-7) at 37 centers across North America, Asia, and Europe, from September 2017 to July 2021. Patients were categorized into ASPECTS of 4-5 and 6-7.

Bone mineral density (BMD), an important marker of bone health, is regulated by a complex interaction of proteins. Plasma proteomic analyses can contribute to identification of proteins associated with changes in BMD. This may be especially informative in stages of bone accrual and peak BMD achievement (i.

Introduction: Advancements in sequencing technologies have significantly improved clinical genetic testing, yet the diagnostic yield remains around 30-40%. Emerging sequencing technologies are now being deployed in the clinical setting to address the remaining diagnostic gap.
Methods: We tested whether short-read genome sequencing could increase diagnostic yield in individuals enrolled into the UCI-GREGoR research study, who had suspected Mendelian conditions and prior inconclusive clinical genetic testing.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is characterized by chronic inflammation and scarring of the lungs, of which idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is the most devastating pathologic form. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis pathogenesis leads to loss of lung function and eventual death in 50% of patients, making it the leading cause of ILD-associated mortality worldwide. Persistent and subclinical microbial infections are implicated in the acute exacerbation of chronic lung diseases.

Originally discovered in the 1890s, the complement system has traditionally been viewed as a "compliment" to the body's innate and adaptive immune response. However, emerging data have shown that the complement system is a much more complex mechanism within the body involved in regulating inflammation, gene transcription, attraction of macrophages, and many more processes. Sustained complement activation contributes to autoimmunity and chronic inflammation.

Objective: To systematically examine the literature on the clinical consequences of inadvertent delays in scheduled onabotulinumtoxin A (OTA) therapy for chronic migraine during the COVID-19 pandemic and assess recommendations when access to OTA is limited.
Background: The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic was unprecedented in its impact on the global medical community. Most healthcare institutions in the United States (US) and the world had begun significantly limiting elective procedures, undermining management of many debilitating chronic conditions.

Although rare, Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a highly aggressive and increasingly prevalent neuroendocrine cancer of the skin. While current interventions, including surgical resection, radiation, and immunotherapy have been employed in treating many patients, those who remain unresponsive to treatment are met with sparse alternatives and a grim prognosis. For this reason, it is of interest to expand the repertoire of available therapies for MCC patients who remain resistant to current primary interventions.

Purpose: To compare the characteristics and outcomes of non-surgical and surgical treatments for Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP).
Methods: A retrospective study conducted at a tertiary university affiliated medical center, including all women diagnosed with Cesarean scar pregnancy between 2019 and 2023. Women treated non-surgically (including: methotrexate, uterine artery embolization and balloon catheter) were compared to women treated surgically (including: hysterectomy, hysteroscopy and excision of the pregnancy with or without uterine niche repair).

The concept of diversity is vital to the practice of medicine and anesthesia practice due to its beneficial effects on multiple aspects of health care practice. However, the current reality is that the workforce fails to adequately reflect the changing demographics of society and the patient population. This article aims to elucidate the benefits, evaluate and provide suggestions identifying some of the obstacles encountered when attempting to advance diversity efforts, and explore and confront challenges that are on the horizon for diversity efforts.

Background: Despite the proven effectiveness of endovascular therapy (EVT) in acute ischemic strokes (AIS) involving anterior circulation large vessel occlusions, isolated posterior cerebral artery (PCA) occlusions (iPCAo) remain underexplored in clinical trials. This study investigates the comparative effectiveness and safety of EVT against medical management (MM) in patients with iPCAo.
Methods: This multinational, multicenter propensity score-weighted study analyzed data from the Multicenter Analysis of primary Distal medium vessel occlusions: effect of Mechanical Thrombectomy (MAD-MT) registry, involving 37 centers across North America, Asia, and Europe.

Background: CT Perfusion (CTP) predictions of infarct core play an important role in the determination of treatment eligibility in large vessel occlusion (LVO) acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Prior studies have demonstrated that blood glucose can affect cerebral blood flow (CBF). Here we examine the influence of acute and chronic hyperglycemia on CTP estimations of infarct core.
