Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer among men and women combined, and the second leading cause of cancer death in the US. The revised USPSTF CRC screening recommendations increased CRC screening needs across health systems, which may create particular challenges for community health centers (CHCs) given their resource constraints. The objective of our study is to assess CRC screening rates across 10 CHCs in Massachusetts and estimate the additional increase in the number of average-risk screening-eligible individuals after the revision in guidelines.

During early development, zebrafish larvae exhibit stereotypical behaviors, which rapidly become more complex. Thus, generating mutant transgenic lines that maintain transparency throughout their larval stage and that can be used to record brain activity has offered strategic opportunities to investigate the underlying neural correlates of behavior establishment. However, few studies have documented the sensorimotor profile of these lines during larval development.

Real-time cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) provides instantaneous visualization of patient anatomy for image guidance, motion tracking, and online treatment adaptation in radiotherapy. While many real-time imaging and motion tracking methods leveraged patient-specific prior information to alleviate under-sampling challenges and meet the temporal constraint (< 500 ms), the prior information can be outdated and introduce biases, thus compromising the imaging and motion tracking accuracy. To address this challenge, we developed a framework (DREME) for real-time CBCT imaging and motion estimation, without relying on patient-specific prior knowledge.

Objectives: Cerebral microbleeds (cMBs) are common imaging findings in conditions related to cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA). Blood-brain barrier (BBB) leakage is considered pivotal in their pathogenesis. This study investigates the potential role of cerebral microenhancement (cME) as an imaging biomarker on 3D T1 black-blood MRI (BB-MRI) for BBB rupture, predicting the formation of cMBs in inflammatory CAA variants.

Brain stimulation has, for many decades, been considered as a potential solution for the unmet needs of the many people living with drug-resistant epilepsy. Clinically, there are several different approaches in use, including vagus nerve stimulation (VNS), deep brain stimulation of the thalamus, and responsive neurostimulation (RNS). Across populations of patients, all deliver reductions in seizure load and SUDEP risk, yet do so variably, and the improvements seem incremental rather than transformative.

The majority of a health plan's performance and designated Star Rating is related to medication-related behavior, eg, medication adherence, medication review, and reconciliation, that are intricately related to adverse drug events (ADEs). Altered pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics owing to aging make older adults more vulnerable to ADEs like falls, fractures, hospitalizations, and mortality. Prevention of avoidable risk factors such as medication burden can help maintain quality of life.

During the experimental formation of sol-gel coatings, the colloid dispersions go through a drying process, and the structure of the coatings is formed as a result of complex chemical, colloidal, and capillary interactions. While computer simulations provide guidelines to tune and even design the nanomaterials synthesis, simulations of coating structure formation are hitherto unknown in the literature. Based on real experiments, we establish here a ReaxFF reactive force field-based molecular dynamics simulation protocol in order to investigate and determine the role of the experimental conditions on the pore structure formation in the coatings.

Background: Lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) remain a leading cause of community-acquired and nosocomial infection in children and a common indication for antimicrobial use and intensive care admission. Determining the causative pathogen for LRTIs is difficult and traditional culture-based methods are labor- and time-intensive. Emerging molecular diagnostic tools may identify pathogens and detect antimicrobial resistance more quickly, to enable earlier targeted antimicrobial therapy.

Local immunomodulation with nanoparticles (NPs) and focused ultrasound (FUS) is recognized for triggering anti-tumor immunity. However, the impact of these tumor immunomodulations on sex-specific microbiome diversity at distant sites and their correlation with therapeutic effectiveness remains unknown. Here, we conducted local intratumoral therapy using immunogenic cell death-enhancing Calreticulin-Nanoparticles (CRT-NPs) and FUS in male and female mice.

Mechanical force is an essential feature for many physical and biological processes, and remote measurement of mechanical signals with high sensitivity and spatial resolution is needed for diverse applications, including robotics, biophysics, energy storage and medicine. Nanoscale luminescent force sensors excel at measuring piconewton forces, whereas larger sensors have proven powerful in probing micronewton forces. However, large gaps remain in the force magnitudes that can be probed remotely from subsurface or interfacial sites, and no individual, non-invasive sensor is capable of measuring over the large dynamic range needed to understand many systems.

Marketed endothelin receptor antagonists (ERAs) have been associated with testicular tubular atrophy and decreases in male animal fertility in chronic toxicity studies in rats and dogs. Consistent with these findings, reduced sperm count has been observed in the clinical setting and is considered a potential class risk with chronic administration of ERAs. In contrast, no such effects on male animal fertility are noted with angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker (ARB) treatment.

Understanding the comprehensive impacts of environmental factors on soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil inorganic carbon (SIC) in different land use types is of great significance for sustainable soil management. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) and structural equation modelling were applied to reveal the driving mechanism of SOC, SIC and the ratio between SOC to SIC (SOC/SIC) in three major land use types (forest, grassland and farmland) in a forest-grassland ecotone (FGE) of Inner Mongolia, Northeast China. Mean annual temperature (MAT), mean annual temperature (MAP) and Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI) were selected by LASSO as the three most important environmental factors affecting SOC, SIC and SOC/SIC in all land use types.

To improve the efficiency of in-vitro-produced (IVP) porcine embryos, we focused on the events that usually occur during in-vivo embryonic transit from the oviduct to the uterus. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are released by different mammalian cells and are imperative for intercellular communication and reflect the cell's physiological state. Based on these characteristics, EVs were isolated from oviductal and uterine fluid to imitate the in vivo environment and improve the efficiency of IVP embryos.
