Some individuals are at risk of anti-D alloimmunization if they inherit D antigens that are qualitatively and/or quantitatively different than wild-type D. We hypothesized that patients who showed serologically inconsistent, weak, or historically discordant D typing results by microplate direct agglutination (MDA) on NEO or Echo (Immucor, Norcross, GA) might be at risk of carrying allelic variants. The present study was designed to evaluate patients with allelic variants if they presented with weakly reactive D typing results on the NEO or Echo.

Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes in patients treated on prospective phase 1-2 protocols with postoperative stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) and identify the associated prognostic variables.

Background: Contemporary therapies for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) have shown survival improvements, which do not account for patient experience and health-related quality of life (HRQoL).

Methods: This literature review included a search of MEDLINE for randomized clinical trials enrolling ⩾50 patients with mCRPC and reporting on patient-reported outcomes (PROs) since 2010.

Results: Nineteen of 25 publications describing seven treatment regimens (10 clinical trials and nine associated secondary analyses) met the inclusion criteria and were critically appraised.

Effectiveness of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) has been shown in patients with one to four brain metastases. Work has been done to evaluate the role of SRS alone treatment without whole-brain radiation therapy in patients with more than four metastases. A recent multiinstitutional JLGK 0901 prospective study revealed the class-2 evidence that SRS without whole-brain radiation therapy is an effective treatment for patients up to 10 metastatic lesions.

Tumor necrosis factor superfamily 15 (TNFSF15) suppresses angiogenesis by specifically inducing apoptosis in proliferating endothelial cells. Death receptor 3 (DR3), a member of the TNF receptor superfamily (TNFRSF25), has been identified as a receptor for TNFSF15 to activate T cells. It is unclear, however, whether DR3 mediates TNFSF15 activity on endothelial cells.

The patterning of the mesoderm of the sea urchin embryo is a classical paradigm of epithelial mesenchymal interactions in organogenesis, yet little is known of its molecular basis. Here we address the role of the homeobox gene, SpMsx, a member of the highly conserved Msx gene family, in this process. Msx genes have been shown to function in the dorsoventral patterning of the central nervous system in Drosophila and in a variety epithelial-mesenchymal interactions in vertebrates.

Although Hodgkin's disease (HD) is not usually associated with congenital or acquired immunodeficiency disorders, recent evidence would suggest a statistically significant increase in HD among individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In the setting of underlying HIV infection, clinical and pathologic characteristics of HD may differ from usual expectations. Thus, 70%-100% of HIV-infected patients with HD present with systemic "B" symptoms.

Msx2 is a homeobox gene with a regulatory role in inductive tissue interactions, including those that pattern the skull. We demonstrated previously that individuals affected with an autosomal dominant disorder of skull morphogenesis (craniosynostosis, Boston type) bear a mutated form of Msx2 in which a histidine is substituted for a highly conserved proline in position 7 of the N-terminal arm of the homeodomain (p148h). The mutation behaves as a dominant positive in transgenic mice.
