February 2024

Instituto de Psiquiatria, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil.

Objective: To develop a classification framework based on random forest (RF) modeling to outline the declarative memory profile of patients with panic disorder (PD) compared to a healthy control sample.

Methods: We developed RF models to classify the declarative memory profile of PD patients in comparison to a healthy control sample using the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT). For this study, a total of 299 patients with PD living in the city of Rio de Janeiro (70.

Metabolic inhibitor screening identifies dihydrofolate reductase as an inducer of the tumor immune escape mediator CD24.

Immunomedicine

December 2022

Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory, Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia 30322, USA. Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia 30322, USA.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors have improved the clinical management of some cancer cases, yet patients still fail to respond to immunotherapy. Dysregulated metabolism is a common feature of many cancers, and metabolites are known to modulate functions in cancer cells. To identify potential metabolic pathways involved in anti-tumor immune response, we employed a metabolic inhibitor-based drug screen in human lung cancer cell lines and examined expression changes in a panel of immune regulator genes.

The majority of children diagnosed with cancer will become long-term survivors; however, many will suffer late effects of treatment, including infertility. Educating patients about potential risk for infertility is important, yet little is known regarding when patients would like to hear this information. The purpose of this study was to assess young adult survivors' previous experience in receiving education about their risk for infertility and determine their preferences for infertility education at various time points during and after treatment.

Background: The FilmArray Respiratory Panel (RP) detects multiple pathogens, including Bordetella pertussis. The multiplex PCR system is appropriate for a core laboratory or point of care due to ease of use. The purpose of this study is to compare the analytical sensitivity of the FilmArray RP, which targets the promoter region of the B.

A randomized controlled trial on Stroke telerehabilitation: The effects on falls self-efficacy and satisfaction with care.

J Telemed Telecare

April 2015

Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina, USA Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service, Durham VA Medical Center Durham, NC, USA.

We determined the effect of a multifaceted stroke telerehabilitation (STeleR) intervention on falls-related self-efficacy and satisfaction with care. We conducted a prospective, randomized, multisite, single-blinded trial in 52 veterans from three Veterans Affairs Medical Centers. Participants who experienced a stroke in the past 24 months were randomized to the STeleR intervention or usual care.

Background: We hypothesized that training in patient-centered counseling would improve self-efficacy and quality of weight management-related counseling provided by pediatric primary care physicians (PCPs).

Methods: A total of 36 PCPs attended a brief (2-hour) training and consented to participate in an evaluation. Training impact was assessed using self-administered, pretraining and posttraining surveys and a review of patient charts from prior to and from 6 and 12 months after training for a random subsample of 19 PCPs (10 charts/timepoint per PCP).

Differential patterns of cortical reorganization following constraint-induced movement therapy during early and late period after stroke: A preliminary study.

NeuroRehabilitation

June 2015

Department of Neurology, Program in Rehabilitation, Wake Forest University, Winston Salem, NC, USA VAMHCS, Geriatrics Research, Education, and Clinical Center, and University of Maryland, Department of Neurology, Baltimore, MD, USA.

Objective: Constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT) has been shown to improve upper extremity voluntary movement and change cortical movement representation after stroke. Direct comparison of the differential degree of cortical reorganization according to chronicity in stroke subjects receiving CIMT has not been performed and was the purpose of this study. We hypothesized that a higher degree of cortical reorganization would occur in the early (less than 9 months post-stroke) compared to the late group (more than 12 months post-stroke).

Survivors of childhood cancer are at risk for a variety of treatment-related late effects and require lifelong individualized surveillance for early detection of late effects. This study assessed knowledge and perceptions of late effects risk before and after a survivor clinic visit. Young adult survivors (≥ 16 years) and parents of child survivors (< 16 years) were recruited prior to initial visit to a cancer survivor program.

Feeding problems represent a frequent concern reported by caregivers of children with autism spectrum disorders, and growing evidence suggests atypical patterns of intake may place this population at risk of nutritional and/or related medical issues, including chronic vitamin and mineral deficiencies, poor bone growth, and obesity. This combination of factors emphasizes a clear need to identify and disseminate evidence-based treatment of feeding problems associated with autism spectrum disorders. Behavioral intervention represents an effective treatment for chronic feeding concerns in this population; however, evidence has largely been established with trained therapists working in highly structured settings.

Seasonal viruses present a major cause of morbidity and mortality in temperate climates. Through major pandemics and smaller annual epidemics, viruses such as influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and human rhinovirus (HRV) result in lost school and work days for most that are infected and more serious complications for the immunocompromised. The reasons for these viruses showing strict seasonality include but are not limited to the influence of cold weather and humidity on virus particles, human physiology, and human behavior.
