The Exposome and Cardiovascular Health.

The study of the interplay between social factors, environmental hazards, and health has garnered much attention in recent years. The term "exposome" was coined to describe the total impact of environmental exposures on an individual's health and well-being, serving as a complementary concept to the genome. Studies have shown a strong correlation between the exposome and cardiovascular health, with various components of the exposome having been implicated in the development and progression of cardiovascular disease.

Ameliorating Cardiovascular Risk in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are at an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which constitutes the most common cause of morbidity and mortality in these patients. Intensive CVD risk factor control can ameliorate the elevated CVD associated with T2D. In this review, we provide an overview of CVD risk factor control, including traditional (blood pressure, glycemia, lipid, thrombosis, and lifestyle modifications) and nontraditional (social and environmental determinants of health) in patients with T2D, including evidence on management and outcomes.

Association between status epilepticus and cardiorespiratory comorbidity in patients with epilepsy: A population-based study.

Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between status epilepticus (SE) and cardiorespiratory comorbidity in patients with epilepsy.

Methods: We conducted a population-based study using cloud-based aggregated electronic medical records from >53 million patients in the US (Explorys, IBM Watson; January 1999 to November 2020). During the study period, we identified patients with epilepsy with SE.

Socioeconomic Deprivation and Premature Cardiovascular Mortality in the United States.

Objective: To determine the variability in county cardiovascular (CV) premature mortality explained by integrated metrics of socioeconomic deprivation and to explore temporal trends in CV mortality by county socioeconomic deprivation.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional analysis of US county-level death certificate data from 1999 to 2018 of age-adjusted premature (25 to 64 years) CV mortality. Integrated metrics of socioeconomic deprivation (Social Deprivation Index [SDI] and county Area Deprivation Index [ADI]) were associated with mortality using linear regression analysis.

Endothelin-1 and peak oxygen consumption in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction.

Background: Mechanisms of exercise intolerance in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) are not well understood. Pulmonary hypertension, a common accompaniment in patients with HFpEF, is associated with poor outcomes. While Endothelin -1 (ET-1) plays a mechanistic role in pulmonary hypertension, its role in exercise intolerance in HFpEF is not well established.

Prevalence and manifestations of diagnosed fibromuscular dysplasia by sex and race: Analysis of >4500 FMD cases in the United States.

Objective: Fibromuscular Dysplasia (FMD) is a rare non-atherosclerotic non-inflammatory vascular disease associated with arterial aneurysms and dissections. The epidemiology of FMD is not well understood. We sought to characterize the epidemiology of FMD utilizing a large aggregated electronic medical record database.
