Reelin, a large extracellular glycoprotein, plays critical roles in neuronal development and synaptic plasticity in the central nervous system (CNS). Recent studies have revealed non-neuronal functions of plasma Reelin in inflammation by promoting endothelial-leukocyte adhesion through its canonical pathway in endothelial cells (via ApoER2 acting on NF-κB), as well as in vascular tone regulation and thrombosis. Ion parking in native mass spectrometry.

A forced, damped harmonic oscillator model for gas-phase ion parking using single-frequency resonance excitation is described and applied to high-mass ions of relevance to native mass spectrometry. Experimental data are provided to illustrate key findings revealed by the modelling. These include: (i) ion secular frequency spacings between adjacent charge states of a given protein are essentially constant and decrease with the mass of the protein (ii) the mechanism for ion parking of high mass ions is the separation of the ion clouds of the oppositely-charged ions with much less influence from an increase in the relative ion velocity due to resonance excitation, (iii) the size of the parked ion cloud ultimately limits ion parking at high / ratio, and (iv) the extent of ion parking of off-target ions is highly sensitive to the bath gas pressure in the ion trap.

Drug overdoses have risen dramatically in recent years. We developed a simple nontargeted method using a disposable paper spray cartridge with an integrated solid phase extraction column. This method was used to screen for ~160 fentanyl analogs, synthetic cannabinoids, other synthetic drugs, and traditional drugs of abuse in over 300 authentic overdose samples collected at emergency departments in Indianapolis.

Fusobacterium nucleatum (Fn), a bacterium present in the human oral cavity and rarely found in the lower gastrointestinal tract of healthy individuals, is enriched in human colorectal cancer (CRC) tumours. High intratumoural Fn loads are associated with recurrence, metastases and poorer patient prognosis. PrimPol is a human DNA primase-polymerase which restarts DNA synthesis beyond DNA lesions and non-B DNA structures blocking replication. Disfunction of PrimPol in cells leads to slowing of DNA replication rates in mitochondria and nucleus, accumulation of chromosome aberrations, cell cycle delay, and elevated sensitivity to DNA-damaging agents. A defective PrimPol has been suggested to be associated with the development of ophthalmic diseases, elevated mitochondrial toxicity of antiviral drugs and increased cell resistance to chemotherapy.

Her thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels were low, while her thyroxine (T4), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were elevated. To enhance the metabolite annotation rates, researchers employ tandem mass spectral libraries and challenging in silico fragmentation software.
