Activating mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) promote ligand-independent signaling; however, the mechanisms involved are poorly defined, and it is unknown whether this generates specific vulnerabilities. We previously observed robust expression of protein kinase Cα (PKCα) in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with mutant EGFR (mEGFR), which, unlike the activation of PKCα, is independent of mEGFR activity. Here, we identify a critical role for PKCα in anchorage-independent growth and survival of lung cancer cells with mEGFR.

The aqueous zinc-sulfur battery holds promise for significant capacity and energy density with low cost and safe operation based on environmentally benign materials. However, it suffers from the sluggish kinetics of the conversion reaction. Here, we highlight the efficacy of molybdenum(IV) sulfide (MoS) to reduce the overpotential of S-ZnS conversion in aqueous electrolytes and study the discharge products formed at the solid-solid and solid-liquid interfaces using experimental and theoretical approaches.

Purpose: (2S,4R)-4-[F]fluoroglutamine ([F]FGln) is a promising metabolic imaging marker in cancer. Based on the fact that major inflammatory cells are heavily dependent on glutamine metabolism like cancer cells, we explored the potential utility of [F]FGln as a metabolic imaging marker for inflammation in two rat models: carrageenan-induced paw edema (CIPE) and collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).
Procedures: The CIPE model (n = 4) was generated by injecting 200 µL of 3% carrageenan solution into the left hind paw three hours before the PET.

We investigate the impact of noise on parameter fitting for an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, focusing on the effects of multiplicative and thermal noise on the accuracy of signal separation. To address these issues, we propose algorithms and methods that can effectively distinguish between thermal and multiplicative noise and improve the precision of parameter estimation for optimal data analysis. Specifically, we explore the impact of both multiplicative and thermal noise on the obfuscation of the actual signal and propose methods to resolve them.

Striatal cholinergic interneurons (CINs) activate nicotinic acetylcholine receptors on dopamine axons to extend the range of dopamine release. Here we show that synchronous activation of CINs induces and extends the range of local serotonin release via a similar mechanism. This process is exaggerated in the hypercholinergic striatum of a mouse model of OCD-like behavior, implicating CINs as critical regulators of serotonin levels in the healthy and pathological striatum.
