The contribution of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ruminant production systems varies between countries and between regions within individual countries. The appropriate quantification of GHG emissions, specifically methane (CH4), has raised questions about the correct reporting of GHG inventories and, perhaps more importantly, how best to mitigate CH4 emissions. This review documents existing methods and methodologies to measure and estimate CH4 emissions from ruminant animals and the manure produced therein over various scales and conditions.

Protein biosynthesis is achieved through translation, which consumes enormous energy. Therefore, under conditions of limited energy supply, translation progress should be strictly coordinated. Sucrose non-fermenting kinase1 (SNF1)-related protein kinase 1 (SnRK1) is an evolutionarily conserved master regulator of cellular energy stress signaling in plants.

Unexpected bioaccumulation and biomagnification of heavy metal(loid)s (HMs) in the environment have become a predicament for all living organisms, including plants. The presence of these HMs in the plant system raised the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and remodeled several vital cellular biomolecules. These lead to several morphological, physiological, metabolic, and molecular aberrations in plants ranging from chlorosis of leaves to the lipid peroxidation of membranes, and degradation of proteins and nucleic acid including the modulation of the enzymatic system, which ultimately affects the plant growth and productivity.

The Gram-positive pathogen Staphylococcus aureus is the only bacterium known to synthesize arginine from proline via the arginine-proline interconversion pathway despite having genes for the well-conserved glutamate pathway. Since the proline-arginine interconversion pathway is repressed by CcpA-mediated carbon catabolite repression (CCR), CCR has been attributed to the arginine auxotrophy of S. aureus.

Genomic selection is a promising tool to select for spot blotch resistance and index-based selection can simultaneously select for spot blotch resistance, heading and plant height. A major biotic stress challenging bread wheat production in regions characterized by humid and warm weather is spot blotch caused by the fungus Bipolaris sorokiniana. Since genomic selection (GS) is a promising selection tool, we evaluated its potential for spot blotch in seven breeding panels comprising 6736 advanced lines from the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center.

Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.) was introduced to Nepal from Japan in the 1990s, and thus, is a relatively new crop in the country. After the initial introduction of cultivar 'Nyoho' in Kakani, Nuwakot, different agencies and growers have introduced a number of cultivars in large numbers from Japan, Europe, America and India to expand the cultivation of strawberry in Nepal.

Agriculture is a multifarious interface between plants and associated microorganisms. In contemporary agriculture, emphasis is being given to environmentally friendly approaches, particularly in developing countries, to enhance sustainability of the system with the least negative effects on produce quality and quantity. Modern agricultural practices such as extensive tillage, the use of harmful agrochemicals, mono-cropping, etc.

Vocal expression of emotions has been observed across species and could provide a non-invasive and reliable means to assess animal emotions. We investigated if pig vocal indicators of emotions revealed in previous studies are valid across call types and contexts, and could potentially be used to develop an automated emotion monitoring tool. We performed an analysis of an extensive and unique dataset of low (LF) and high frequency (HF) calls emitted by pigs across numerous commercial contexts from birth to slaughter (7414 calls from 411 pigs).

Brown rice is composed of rice bran, pericarp, seed coat, and aleurone layers, and the rice bran layer contains a large number of substances useful for the human body, such as dietary fiber, α-tocopherol, α-tocotrienol, and vitamins. However, more than 90% of these substances are removed when polished, and white rice has the disadvantage of losing food-related ingredients, such as umami-related amino acids, when compared to the unpolished group. In this study, we tried to develop new breeding lines with a thinner seed coat and aleurone layer to provide high eating quality with softer chewing characteristics and processability in rice grain.

The demand for rapid and nondestructive methods to determine chemical components in food and agricultural products is proliferating due to being beneficial for screening food quality. This research investigates the feasibility of Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) to predict total as well as an individual type of isoflavones and oligosaccharides using intact soybean samples. A partial least square regression method was performed to develop models based on the spectral data of 310 soybean samples, which were synchronized to the reference values evaluated using a conventional assay.

The plant mitogen-activated protein kinase (MPK) cascade, a highly conserved signal transduction system in eukaryotes, plays a crucial role in the plant's response to environmental stimuli and phytohormones. It is well-known that nuclear translocation of MPKs is necessary for their activities in mammalian cells. However, the mechanism underlying nuclear translocation of plant MPKs is not well elucidated.

Curcumin, a yellow-colored molecule derived from the rhizome of , has been identified as the bioactive compound responsible for numerous pharmacological activities of turmeric, including anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antidiabetic, etc. Nevertheless, the clinical application of curcumin is inadequate due to its low solubility, poor absorption, rapid metabolism and elimination. Advancements in recent research have shown several components and techniques to increase the bioavailability of curcumin.

As numerous industrial bioprocesses rely on yeast fermentation, developing CO-fixing yeast strains can be an attractive option toward sustainable industrial processes and carbon neutrality. Recent studies have shown that the expression of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase-oxygenase (RuBisCO) in yeasts, such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Kluyveromyces marxianus, enables mixotrophic CO fixation and production of biofuels. Also, the expression of a synthetic Calvin-Benson-Bassham (CBB) cycle including RuBisCO in Pichia pastoris enables autotrophic growth on CO.
