Introduction: Physical fitness is an integral part of military readiness, and failure to meet military Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) standards can severely damage or end careers. Postpartum active duty service members experience a drop in PFA scores and passing rates compared to their pre-pregnancy assessments. Each branch recently extended recovery time to 12 months, but more research is required to see if this change alone is enough to return both active duty and reserve component postpartum personnel to their own preconception PFA outcomes (scores, passing rates, and injury rates) and those of a control group of nullpartum female airmen.

How does context shapes religious practices and religious expression of immigrants? Existing work has focussed on changes over the long term and across generations. We argue that context can shape religious practice shortly after arrival. Using a nationally representative survey of Syrian refugees with children who arrived between late 2015 and 2018, we examine how often parents talk to their children about religion, a central mechanism in religious socialization.

The undertold story: A leadership program to expand recognition of the importance of early childhood experiences.

There are considerable data documenting the importance of early experiences for healthy human development. Though widely accepted amongst mental health clinicians, developmental researchers and early childhood policymakers, this information is not well known by much of the public. Hippocampal representations of space and time seem to share a common coding scheme characterized by neurons with bell-shaped tuning curves called place and time cells. The properties of the tuning curves are consistent with Weber's law, such that, in the absence of visual inputs, width scales with the peak time for time cells and with distance for place cells. Building on earlier computational work, we examined how neurons with such properties can emerge through self-supervised learning.

Recent research has shown that an array of religious beliefs can be used to enforce socially normative behaviour, but the application of these theories to other supernatural beliefs, including witchcraft, is still nascent. Across two pre-registered studies in Mauritius, we examine how witchcraft is believed to be caused by envy and how this belief can create and enforce social norms around not causing envy. Data was collected in-person in Mauritius.
