The Sun is the most studied of all stars, and thus constitutes a benchmark for stellar models. However, our vision of the Sun is still incomplete, as illustrated by the current debate on its chemical composition. The problem reaches far beyond chemical abundances and is intimately linked to microscopic and macroscopic physical ingredients of solar models such as radiative opacity, for which experimental results have been recently measured that still await theoretical explanations.

The United States federal government has invested $7.5 billion into charging infrastructure, including the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, to build fast charging stations along designated highways for long-distance car travel. We develop a consecutive coverage metric to compute the percent of United States roads (traffic-weighted) that are consecutively accessible within 500 miles of each county.

Borealis is a recently discovered submerged mud volcano in the Polar North Atlantic, differing from the numerous methane seepages previously identified in the region. Here we show in situ observations from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV), capturing the release of warm (11.5 °C) Neogene sediments and methane-rich fluids from a gryphon at Borealis.

, known as "Dhumuugaa" in Afan Oromo and "Sensel" or "Smiza" in Amharic, is traditionally used to treat ailments such as scabies, fever, asthma, diarrhea, malaria, and more. This study explored the chemical composition and biological activity of its extracts and isolated compounds. The essential oils were extracted using the hydrodistillation method, and their chemical composition was evaluated using GC-MS.

Humans adjust their movement to changing environments effortlessly via multisensory integration of the effector's state, motor commands, and sensory feedback. It is postulated that frontoparietal (FP) networks are involved in the control of prehension, with dorsomedial (DM) and dorsolateral (DL) regions processing the reach and the grasp, respectively. This study tested (5F, 5M participants) the differential involvement of FP nodes (ventral premotor cortex - PMv, dorsal premotor cortex - PMd, anterior intraparietal sulcus - aIPS, and anterior superior parietal-occipital cortex - aSPOC) in online adjustments of reach-to-grasp coordination to mechanical perturbations that disrupted arm transport.

How the prefrontal cortex contributes to working memory remains controversial, as theories differ in their emphasis on its role in storing memories versus controlling their content. To adjudicate between these competing ideas, we tested how perturbations to the human (both sexes) lateral prefrontal cortex impact the storage and control aspects of working memory during a task that requires human subjects to allocate resources to memory items based on their behavioral priority. Our computational model made a strong prediction that disruption of this control process would counterintuitively improve memory for low-priority items.

The hippocampus supports a multiplicity of functions, with the dorsal region contributing to spatial representations and memory, and the ventral hippocampus (vH) being primarily involved in emotional processing. While spatial encoding has been extensively investigated, how the vH activity is tuned to emotional states, e.g.

Background: Automated machine learning (ML)-based large vessel occlusion (LVO) detection algorithms have been shown to improve in-hospital workflow metrics including door-to-groin time (DTG). The degree to which care team engagement and interaction are required for these benefits remains incompletely characterized.
Methods: This analysis was conducted as a pre-planned post-hoc analysis of a randomized prospective clinical trial.

Background: Programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) signaling blockade by immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) effectively restores immune surveillance to treat melanoma. However, chronic interferon-gamma (IFNγ)-induced immune homeostatic responses in melanoma cells contribute to immune evasion and acquired resistance to ICI. Poly ADP ribosyl polymerase 14 (PARP14), an IFNγ-responsive gene product, partially mediates IFNγ-driven resistance.

Agency beliefs influence how humans learn from different contexts and outcomes. Research demonstrates that stressors, such as exposure to early-life adversity (ELA), are associated with both agency beliefs and learning, but how these processes interact remains unclear. The current study investigated whether exposure to ELA influences agency and interacts with reinforcement learning in adults.

As an emerging toxic recreational drug, kratom use has been associated with a range of adverse effects, but reports of structural changes in the central nervous system are rare. We report a case of a young man in his 20s with a history of anxiety and depression who presented with an altered mental status and anterograde and retrograde amnesia following kratom use. His labs showed elevated alanine aminotransferase and ammonia levels, and his MRI revealed bilateral hippocampal T2 hyperintensity signal changes.

Enhancers are tissue-specific regulatory DNA elements that can activate transcription of genes over distance. Their target genes most often are located in the same contact domain-chromosomal entities formed by cohesin DNA loop extrusion and typically flanked by CTCF-bound boundaries. Enhancers shared by multiple unrelated genes are underexplored but may be more common than anticipated.

The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator concerns (ICDC) questionnaire was initially designed for ICD recipients in England to assess and address these concerns. However, it remains uncertain whether this questionnaire possesses similar measurement properties and is suitable for ICD recipients in the United States.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the United States despite the availability of effective preventive screening. This project was designed as a community awareness initiative to increase CRC awareness, knowledge, and intent to discuss and complete CRC screening. This quasi-experimental study had a QI focus and used a convenience sample in a public setting assessing CRC awareness, knowledge, and intent to discuss and complete screening after participating in an inflatable colon tour.

Diabetes is a global health issue affecting over 6% of the world and 11 % of the US population. It is closely linked to insulin resistance, a pivotal factor in Type 2 diabetes development. This review explores a promising avenue for addressing insulin resistance through the lens of Milk-Derived Bioactive Peptides (MBAPs).

During lung development, the embryonic airway originates as a wishbone-shaped epithelial tube, which undergoes a series of branching events to build the bronchial tree. This process depends crucially on cell proliferation and is thought to involve distinct branching modes: lateral branching, wherein daughter branches emerge along the length of a parent branch, and bifurcations, wherein the tip of a parent branch splits to form two new daughter branches. The developing airway is fluid-filled, and previous studies have shown that altered luminal pressure can influence rates of branching morphogenesis.

Our lab previously established that repeated exposure to a bitter diet can increase salivary protein (SP) expression, which corresponds to an increase in acceptance of the bitter stimulus. However, this work was exclusively in male rodents, here we examine sex differences. We found that there are no differences in SP expression (experiment 1) or quinine diet acceptance (experiment 2) across stage of estrous cycle.

With the rise in fast-food culture and the continued high numbers of tobacco-related deaths, there has been a great deal of interest in understanding the relationship between high-fat diet (HFD) and nicotine use behaviors. Using adult mice and a patch-clamp electrophysiology assay, we investigated the influence of HFD on the excitability of ventral tegmental area (VTA) dopamine neurons and pyramidal neurons in the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) given their role in modulating the reinforcing effects of nicotine and natural rewards. We then examined whether HFD-induced changes in peripheral markers were associated with nicotine use behaviors.
