Morbilliform eruptions, which are a clinical reaction pattern characterized by erythematous macules and papules coalescing into patches that cover most of the skin surface, are one of the most common cutaneous findings in the inpatient setting. In the hospital setting, most causes are benign and due to low-risk drug exanthems; however, morbilliform eruptions may also be a sign of high-risk diseases, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms/drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome, acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, and graft-versus-host disease. Proper identification of the etiology and risk stratification of a morbilliform eruption is critical to ensure proper management and optimize patient outcomes.

Dietary restriction (DR) is widely considered to be one of the most potent approaches to extend healthy lifespan across various species, yet it has become increasingly apparent that DR-mediated longevity is influenced by biological and non-biological factors. We propose that current priorities in the field should include understanding the relative contributions of these factors to elucidate the mechanisms underlying the beneficial effects of DR. Our work conducted in two laboratories represents an attempt to unify DR protocols in Drosophila and to investigate the stochastic effects of DR.

Evidence accumulated mitochondria, as the "powerplants of the cell," express several functional receptors for external ligands that modify their function and regulate cell biology. This review sheds new light on the role of these organelles in sensing external stimuli to facilitate energy production for cellular needs. This is possible because mitochondria express some receptors on their membranes that are responsible for their autonomous responses.

Background: Conventional post-stroke edema management strategies are limitedly successful as in multiple cases of hemorrhagic transformation is being reported. Clinically, acute-ischemic-stroke (AIS) intervention by endovascular mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have shown benefits by altering various signaling pathways. Our previous studies have reported that intra-arterial administration of 1*10 MSCs (IA-MSCs) were beneficial in alleviating post-stroke edema by modulating PKCδ/MMP9/AQP4 axis and helpful in preserving the integrity of blood-brain-barrier (BBB).

NRG1 Fusions: The New Kid on the Block.

Curr Oncol Rep

January 2025

Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Georgetown University, 3800 Reservoir Road NW, Washington, DC, 20007, USA.

Purpose Of Review: Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) fusions are rare but actionable oncogenic drivers that occur in a variety of tumor types, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). These fusions lead to pathophysiologic activation of HER signaling pathways, promoting tumor growth, invasion, and metastasis. Current evidence suggests that NRG1 fusion-positive NSCLC does not respond well to conventional treatments such as immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

Purpose: Job interviews are often an integral component of the hiring process, but for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), job interviews can pose an unfair barrier to employment. Although employers may perceive candidates with ASD as qualified, they tend to reject those candidates in interviews because of atypical social interactions. This is true in situations in which evaluators are naïve to candidates' ASD diagnosis and have no training about neurodiversity.

Corporate discourse offers a prime site for the study of interdiscursive performance across linguistic and cultural boundaries. However, there is a dearth of quantitative studies to assess cultural interdiscursivity in corporate discourse. Taking advantage of an LDA model and a dispersion formula, this study provides a corpus-based measurement of the interdiscursivity of corporate cultures as expressed within MD&A texts.

Beyond checkpoint inhibitors: the three generations of immunotherapy.

Clin Exp Med

January 2025

LSU-LCMC Cancer Center, LSU School of Medicine, 1700 Tulane Avenue, Room 510, New Orleans, LA, 70112, USA.

Anti-tumor immunotherapy was rediscovered and rejuvenated in the last two decades with the discovery of CTLA-4, PD-1 and PD-L1 and the roles in inhibiting immune function and tumor evasion of anti-tumor immune response. Following the approval of the first checkpoint inhibitor ipilimumab against CTLA-4 in melanoma in 2011, there has been a rapid development of tumor immunotherapy. Furthermore, additional positive and negative molecules among the T-cell regulatory systems have been identified that that function to fine tune the stimulatory or inhibitory immune cells and modulate their functions (checkpoint modulators).
