Smart meters such as advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) can significantly improve identifying realistic sized leaks in water distribution networks (WDNs). However, to date, detection/localization methods for AMI systems are extremely limited. In this study, to examine the benefits of using AMIs for leak detection within distribution network, a three-dimensional (3D) convolutional neural network (CNN) deep learning (DL) model is proposed that can account for temporally and spatially distributed information of pressures.

The eastern equatorial Atlantic hosts a productive marine ecosystem that depends on upward supply of nitrate, the primary limiting nutrient in this region. The annual productivity peak, indicated by elevated surface chlorophyll levels, occurs in the Northern Hemisphere summer, roughly coinciding with strengthened easterly winds. Association between choroidal microvasculature in the eye and Alzheimer's disease risk in cognitively healthy mid-life adults: A pilot study.

Introduction: We explored associations between measurements of the ocular choroid microvasculature and Alzheimer's disease (AD) risk.

Methods: We measured the choroidal vasculature appearing in optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans of 69 healthy, mid-life individuals in the PREVENT Dementia cohort. The cohort was prospectively split into low-, medium-, and high-risk groups based on the presence of known risk factors (apolipoprotein E [] ε4 genotype and family history of dementia [FH]).

Background: Late-stage human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is typically characterized by low CD4 + T-cell count. We previously showed that profound changes in the monocyte turnover (MTO) rate in rhesus macaques infected by the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) outperforms declining CD4 + T-cell counts in predicting rapid health decline associated with progression to terminal disease. High MTO is associated with increased tissue macrophage death.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic exposed weaknesses in healthcare systems and disparities in healthcare access across sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).
