Background: Transoral outlet reduction endoscopy (TORe) and glucagon-like peptide-1 agonist, liraglutide, have individually shown promise in managing weight regain after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. However, combined effects of adjunctive liraglutide to TORe remain unexplored. A cross-over design was utilized to evaluate the efficacy of liraglutide treatment when initiated immediately post-TORe or 1 year post-TORe.

Purpose: Physical activity (PA) is associated with better quality of life for cancer survivors; however, less is known about this association among individuals with advanced cancer. This study assesses whether changes in PA following an advanced cancer diagnosis are associated with health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes.
Methods: Data were collected from 247 participants in a survey of adults with advanced cancer who visited the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center (January 2021-2023).

Structural priming effects are widespread and heavily relied upon to assess structural representation and processing. Whether these effects are caused by error-driven implicit learning, residual activation, a combination of these, or some other learning mechanism remains to be established. The current study used preexisting data and a novel data analysis approach that links processing at the prime to later processing at the target to better understand the nature of structural priming.

Current cancer screening methods are effective for detecting early stage cancers and even preventing some cancers, but their effectiveness has only been demonstrated for a handful of cancers, and for many cancers, there are no screening tests clinically available. In addition, the majority of the screening methods are not ideal, resulting in suboptimal compliance and the occurrence of preventable cancers. A screening test that is convenient, safe, accurate and that can screen for multiple cancers is an ideal screening test that would address many of the shortcomings of the current tests.

The metabolic diversity of plants, comprising over a million different metabolites across the plant kingdom, harbors enormous potential for pharmaceutical and biotechnological applications. Resin glycoside (RG) acylsugars from the Convolvulaceae are of interest due to their medicinal and agricultural potential. However, understanding the biological relevance of RGs is challenging as they exhibit a high lineage-specific structural diversity.

This study assessed disparities in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use among transgender and gender expansive youth and young adults (N = 477) between 15 and 24 years old in the CARES (ATN 149) and TechStep (ATN 160) study protocols within the National Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN). Structural equation modeling was used to test mediation pathways between gender identity and PrEP uptake among the full sample and stratified by sex assigned at birth. Lifetime PrEP uptake was higher among those assigned male at birth (26%) versus assigned female at birth (9%), explained by greater structural and behavioral risks and perceived need for PrEP, especially among trans women.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: A Ketogenic diet (KD; a diet comprised of 75% fat, 20% protein and 5% carbohydrates) has gained much popularity in recent years, especially regarding neurogliomas (or "gliomas"). This review critically assesses literature on the application of KD throughout the cancer continuum from a Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) perspective. RECENT FINDINGS: 2021 revised classification standards for Central Nervous System (CNS) tumors are available.

The metabolomic approach has recently been used in the assessment of semen quality and male fertility. Additionally, the crucial roles of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and aromatic amino acids (AAAs) in metabolic syndrome (MetS) were reported. However, little information exists about the association between BCAAs and AAAs with semen parameters, particularly in men with and without MetS.

Background: Decisions made for anti-reflux surgery can be guided by both EndoFLIP™ measurement of lower esophageal sphincter (LES) distensibility index (DI) and esophageal manometric measurement of lower esophageal function, but the exact nature of their relationship to one another is unknown despite serving similar purposes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the relationship between pre-operative LES basal mean pressure with esophageal manometry and intraoperative gastroesophageal DI using EndoFLIP™ following crural dissection to aid in informing surgeons' decision-making during anti-reflux surgery.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted of patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease who underwent preoperative esophageal manometry evaluation and anti-reflux surgery with EndoFLIP™ intraoperatively between December 2020 and January 2024.

Trophic niche has fundamental ecological importance, but many studies consider few niche metrics and most neglect critical structuring processes. Multiple processes shape trophic niches, including inter and intra-specific competition, predation and resource diversity. These processes interact and effects vary with time and taxa.

Oxyntic gland adenomas (OGAs) are benign gastric neoplasms composed of gland-forming epithelial cells with predominantly chief cell differentiation resembling oxyntic glands confined to the mucosa. If the tumor has submucosal invasion, it should be classified as gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland type. The OGAs can pose a diagnostic challenge, as they can resemble aggressive gastric neoplasms.

L-transposition of the great arteries (L-TGA) represents a spectrum of congenital heart defects (CHD) associated with atrioventricular block (AVB). However, the incidence and prognosis of postoperative AVB among patients with variants of L-TGA is uncertain. Assess the incidence and risk factors for postoperative AVB requiring permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation for pediatric patients with L-TGA undergoing cardiac surgery.

Delivery of health care, including medical imaging, generates substantial global greenhouse gas emissions. The cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) community has an opportunity to decrease our carbon footprint, mitigate the effects of the climate crisis, and develop resiliency to current and future impacts of climate change. The goal of this document is to review and recommend actions and strategies to allow for CMR operation with improved sustainability, including efficient CMR protocols and CMR imaging workflow strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy, and waste, and to decrease reliance on finite resources, including helium and waterbody contamination by gadolinium-based contrast agents.

Acquired palpebral ptosis (also called blepharoptosis, or ptosis) is an abnormally low-positioned upper eyelid and occasionally presents as a chief complaint to the emergency department. Due to the wide range of causes and spectrum of severity, emergency physicians must recognize and initiate appropriate diagnostic and treatment pathways to limit the risk of long-term complications in those affected. We report a case of a 19 year old healthy man who presented with a chief complaint of unilateral eyelid droop in the setting of three days of sinusitis symptoms.

Background: Opioid overdose is an ongoing public health issue in the rural United States and can be countered by increasing access to the opioid antagonist naloxone. Community pharmacists are well-positioned to offer and dispense naloxone to patients at risk of opioid overdose, but still experience a range of communication barriers. Understanding rural patient communication preferences is essential to prepare pharmacists to discuss naloxone in a patient-centered manner.
