Background: Chronic rhinosinusitis (inclusive of subtypes with nasal polyps [CRSwNP], without nasal polyps [CRSsNP], and allergic fungal rhinosinusitis [AFRS]) causes inflammation of the nose mucosa and paranasal sinuses. Unfortunately, evidence supporting use of clinical outcome assessments (COAs) in regulated clinical trials to assess key measurement concepts of these conditions is limited.
Objective: To identify key disease-related symptoms and impacts, potential outcomes of interest for new treatments, and COAs available to measure those outcomes among adult and adolescent individuals living with CRSwNP, CRSsNP, and AFRS.

One of the outstanding features of chronic hepatitis B infection (CHB) is its strong association with liver fibrosis. CHB induced inflammation and injury trigger multiple biochemical and physical changes that include the promotion of a wide range of cytokines, chemokines and growth factors that activate hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) CHB induced activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) is regarded as a central event in fibrogenesis to directly promote the synthesis of myofibroblasts and the expression of a range of materials to repair injured liver tissue. Fibrogenesis is modulated by the mainstream epigenetic machinery, as well as by non-coding RNA (ncRNA) that are often referred to as an ancillary epigenetic response to fine tune gene expression.

Breast cancer represents the primary cause of death of women under 65 in developed countries, due to the acquisition of multiple drug resistance mechanisms. The PI3K/AKT pathway is one of the major regulating mechanisms altered during the development of endocrine resistance and inhibition of steps in this signalling pathway are adopted as a key strategy to overcome this issue. ADP-ribosylation is a post-translational modification catalysed by PARP enzymes that regulates essential cellular processes, often altered in diseases.

An increasing number of cannabis-related products have become available and entered the market, particularly those containing cannabidiol (CBD) and Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ-THC). Analytical methods for cannabinoids in urine have been described extensively in the literature. However, methods providing good resolution for distinguishing interferences from THC positional isomers are needed.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease characterised by the destruction of pancreatic beta cells, resulting in lifelong insulin dependence. Although exogenous insulin can maintain glycaemic control, this approach does not protect residual or replacement pancreatic beta cells from immune-mediated death. Current therapeutics designed to protect functional beta cell mass or promote beta cell proliferation and regeneration can have off-target effects, resulting in higher dose requirements and adverse side effects.

Hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) is a brominated flame retardant, that is added, but not chemically bonded, to consumer products. HBCD is sold as a commercial-grade HBCD mixture containing three major stereoisomers: alpha (α), beta (β), and gamma (γ), with relative amounts of 12% for α-HBCD, 6% for β-HBCD, and 82% for γ-HBCD. HBCDs are widely measured in the environment and in biological matrices.

Identifying facile strategies for hierarchically structuring crystalline porous materials is critical for realizing diffusion length scales suitable for broad applications. Here, we elucidate synthesis-structure-function relations governing how room temperature catalytic conditions can be exploited to tune covalent organic framework (COF) growth and thereby access unique hierarchical morphologies without the need to introduce secondary templates or structure directing molecules. Specifically, we demonstrate how scandium triflate, an efficient catalyst involved in the synthesis of imine-based COFs, can be exploited as an effective growth modifier capable of selectively titrating terminal amines on 2D COF layers to facilitate anisotropic crystal growth.

Background: Invasive systems are commonly used for monitoring intracranial pressure (ICP) in traumatic brain injury (TBI) and are considered the gold standard. The availability of invasive ICP monitoring is heterogeneous, and in low- and middle-income settings, these systems are not routinely employed due to high cost or limited accessibility. The aim of this consensus was to develop recommendations to guide monitoring and ICP-driven therapies in TBI using non-invasive ICP (nICP) systems.

Introduction: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a significant health issue among veterans and poses a substantial risk for pituitary injury. Consensus guidelines recommend that patients who have sustained a TBI should undergo a baseline pituitary hormonal evaluation after the primary brain insult. Patients with abnormal screening test results or with symptoms of hypopituitarism should be referred to endocrinology for a full assessment.

Monte Carlo molecular simulations of curve-shaped rods show the propensity of such shapes to polymorphism revealing both smectic and polar nematic phases. The nematic exhibits a nanoscale modulated local structure characterized by a unique, polar, -symmetry axis that tightly spirals generating a mirror-symmetry-breaking organization of the achiral rods-form chirality. A comprehensive characterization of the polarity and its symmetries in the nematic phase confirms that the nanoscale modulation is distinct from the elastic deformations of a uniaxial nematic director in the twist-bend nematic phase.

Potato (Solanum tuberosum) is the third-most important food crop in the world. Although the potato genome has been fully sequenced, functional genomics research of potato lags behind that of other major food crops, largely due to the lack of a model experimental potato line. Here, we present a diploid potato line, 'Jan,' which possesses all essential characteristics for facile functional genomics studies.

The assessment of myocardial function and its coupling with the arterial system, called ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC), is of paramount importance in many clinical fields, from arterial hypertension, which is the main cause of cardiovascular diseases and death, to heart failure. VAC has been the subject of studies for several decades both from an energetic cost and the impact it can exert on cardiovascular performance. Although more attention has been paid to the relationship between the left ventricle and the left arterial circuit in compromised hemodynamic stages, VAC has aroused interest in many other aspects of study, from its application in pathologies of the right sections of the heart to its clinical impact in prevention and cardiovascular risk factors.
