Recent studies highlight the importance of early detection using tools like the Subjective Global Assessment (SGA) and handgrip strength tests.

Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) are rare heritable disorders of the immune system predisposing to atypical infections, autoimmunity, inflammation, and risk of malignancy. Adaptation is the process of incorporating stressful experiences into one's life; these experiences may include onset of illness, receiving a diagnosis, or suffering without a diagnosis. Poor adaptation is linked to adverse outcomes including psychiatric comorbidities and decreased well-being.

Management of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms during the Treatment for Non-Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer.

Purpose Of Review: This narrative review aims to report upon the existing treatment evidence and strategies for managing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) during treatment, including transurethral resection and intravesical therapy. This review also attempts to examine novel approaches to mitigate treatment-related lower urinary tract symptoms and improve treatment adherence.

Recent Findings: There is sparse but promising evidence in improving LUTS secondary to intravesical therapy.

Background: Irinotecan demonstrates anti-tumor efficacy in preclinical glioma models but clinical results are modest due to drug delivery limitations. Convection enhanced delivery (CED) improves drug delivery by increasing intratumoral drug concentration. Real-time magnetic resonance imaging of infusate delivery during CED may optimize tumor coverage.

The error-related negativity (ERN) has been called a putative neural marker of anxiety risk in children, with smaller ERN amplitudes denoting greater risk in early childhood. Children of anxious mothers are at elevated risk for anxiety problems compared to children of non-anxious mothers. Still unknown is whether discrete maternal symptoms interact with child ERN to predict different forms of child anxiety risk, knowledge of which could increase our understanding of the specificity of known conditions and pathways for transgenerational effects.

Outpatient dermatology appointment wait times for United States military veterans, 2014-2021.

Trends in outpatient dermatology appointment wait times for United States (US) veterans are poorly characterized. Given concerns surrounding prolonged wait times at Veterans Health Administration (VHA) medical facilities, the federal government introduced the Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Outside Networks (MISSION) Act in 2018, allowing veterans to receive VHA-reimbursed community care if VHA specialty care appointments cannot be scheduled within 28 days. Considering this expanded access to community care, we characterized among US veterans the (1) overall demand for dermatology appointments, (2) trends in average wait times, and (3) facility/geographic variation in wait times.

Sebaceous carcinoma in immunosuppressed patients: a narrative review.

Sebaceous carcinoma is a rare cutaneous malignancy of sebaceous glands, but it is up to 25-fold more common in immunosuppressed individuals. In this narrative review, we examine the current literature on the pathogenesis, incidence, risk factors, prognosis, treatment, and surveillance of sebaceous carcinoma in immunosuppression and highlight practical considerations for providers who care for these patients. Increased incidence may be related to decreased immune surveillance, susceptibility to an unknown viral trigger, microsatellite instability, immunosuppressive medications, and unmasking of occult Muir-Torre Syndrome.

Oral health and rehabilitation in face transplant recipients - a systematic review.

Background: Facial transplantation (FT) provides advanced solutions for severe facial defects by incorporating complex tissues such as bone, skin, oral mucosa and nerves. Oral health plays a critical role in FT, impacting both functional outcomes and transplant prognosis. Despite its importance, literature on oral health in FT recipients remains sparse.

Surgeons transitioning from laparoscopic to robotic-assisted inguinal hernia repair: a prospective analysis of efficiency.

Background: Available reports of surgeon efficiency when transitioning from laparoscopic to robotic-assisted (RA) inguinal hernia repair (IHR) are retrospective or describe single-center experience. The purpose of this study is to provide a prospective, multi-surgeon, multi-center assessment of surgeon efficiency when transitioning from Lap-IHR to RA-IHR.

Methods: General surgeons with Lap-IHR experience (≥300 Lap-IHRs prior to the study) but with no robotic experience (no RA cases one year prior to the study) consented to participate in this prospective, observational pilot study of their surgical efficiency as they adopted RA-IHR.

RACK1 MARylation regulates translation and stress granules in ovarian cancer cells.

Mono(ADP-ribosyl)ation (MARylation) is emerging as a critical regulator of ribosome function and translation. Herein, we demonstrate that RACK1, an integral component of the ribosome, is MARylated by the mono(ADP-ribosyl) transferase (MART) PARP14 in ovarian cancer cells. MARylation of RACK1 is required for stress granule formation and promotes the colocalization of RACK1 in stress granules with G3BP1, eIF3η, and 40S ribosomal proteins.

Posttraumatic stress disorder and its associations with antiretroviral therapy among veterans with HIV.

Objectives: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may affect antiretroviral therapy (ART) response and clinical outcomes for veterans with HIV (VWH) receiving care in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Objectives are to estimate the associations between PTSD and ART nonadherence, modifications, and failure; measure effect modification by number of deployments and combat exposure; and examine how these associations vary over time.

Design: In this prospective cohort study of all VWH on ART who deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan and receive care in the VA (n = 3206), patients entered at ART initiation and were censored in December 2022, totaling 22 261 person-years of follow-up.

A method to determine electron temperature within a plasma by the spectral analysis of atomic tungsten emission has been explored. The technique was applied to a post-discharge region immediately following a high voltage nanosecond pulsed discharge in air with tungsten electrodes. Atomic tungsten lines are readily observed in the weak emission spectrum within the post-discharge region for many microseconds.

Ultra-fast single-crystal CVD diamonds in the particle time-of-flight (PTOF) detector for low yield burn-history measurements on the NIF (invited).

The Particle Time of Flight (PTOF) diagnostic is a chemical vapor deposition diamond-based detector and is the only diagnostic for measuring nuclear bang times of low yield (<1013) shots on the National Ignition Facility. Recently, a comprehensive study of detector impulse responses revealed certain detectors with very fast and consistent impulse responses with a rise time of <50 ps, enabling low yield burn history measurements. At the current standoff of 50 cm, this measurement is possible with fast 14 MeV neutrons from deuterium-tritium (DT) fusion plasmas.

Identifying Challenges Related to the Management of Comorbidities in People with Dementia in Residential Care: Expert Delphi Consensus Exercise.

Improving early detection, management, and treatment of comorbid conditions to dementia in residential care could slow down cognitive and functional decline, and increase residents' quality of life. We conducted a Delphi study comprising three rounds (two surveys and an interview) to identify the most difficult dementia comorbidities to deal with in residential care and related issues. Participants were 15 UK-based experts including academics, residential care workers, geriatricians, and neuropsychologists.
