Disruption of the healthy diverse gut microbial milieu plays an important role in the pathogenesis of several diseases including infection (CDI), inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, alcohol-related liver disease and metabolic-dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is highly effective in treating CDI, though its utility in other diseases is still being explored.

Background: Cognitive impairment is common at all stages of Parkinson's disease (PD), but there is no consensus on which neuropsychological tests to use or how to interpret cognitive battery results. A cognitive summary score (CSS) combines the richness of a neuropsychological battery with the simplicity of a single score.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine whether a CSS created using robust norming can detect early cognitive deficits in de novo, untreated PD.

Aqueous two-phase extraction (ATPE) is an effective and scalable liquid-phase processing method for purifying single species of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) from multiple species mixtures. Recent metrological developments have led to advances in the speed of identifying solution parameters leading to more efficient ATPE separations with greater fidelities. In this feature article, we review these developments and discuss their vast potential to further advance SWCNT separations science towards the optimization of production scale processes and the full realization of SWCNT-enabled technologies.

: In this study, we evaluated the effects of a semester-long, multi-component positive psychology course on undergraduate well-being, mental health, and physical health. : Using a quantitative, quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design, participants in the positive psychology course ( = 38) were compared to a control condition ( = 41) on measures of well-being, physical health, and mental health. The positive psychology course included traditional lectures, experiential homework, small group labs, and individual consultations.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by intermittent cessation of breathing during sleep due to the collapse of oropharyngeal tissues. This review examines the role of craniofacial growth in OSA and evaluates the efficacy of orthodontic and orthognathic treatments. Maxillary expansion and orthognathic surgery have demonstrated significant reductions in sleep apneas and hypopneas, although they do not consistently achieve cure levels, particularly in the presence of obesity and connective tissue disorders.
