Titanium niobium oxides (TNOs) are attractive anode materials for high power density Li-ion batteries. However, the details of capacity storage in TNOs are not fully understood today as it depends on the Ti and Nb composition and their changes in the oxidation state. This is further complicated by a wide variation in gravimetric capacities reported in the literature for TNO anodes.

Climate change-induced flooding has caused public health crises in Borno State, Nigeria, which influence the increase of waterborne diseases and malnutrition. Flooding disrupts water and sanitation systems, creating breeding grounds for waterborne diseases such as cholera, malaria, and diarrheal illnesses. The displacement of communities and destruction of agricultural infrastructure due to flooding further increase food insecurity, leading to malnutrition.

Transparent light detection devices are attractive for emerging see-through applications such as augmented reality, smart windows and optical communications using light fidelity (Li-Fi). Herein, we present flexible and transparent photodetectors (PDs) using conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene): polystyrene sulfonate (PEDOT:PSS): Ag nanowires (NWs) based nanofibres and zinc oxide (ZnO) NWs on a transparent and degradable cellulose acetate (CA) substrate. The electrospun (PEDOT:PSS): Ag NW-based nanofibres exhibit a sheet resistance of 11 Ω/sq and optical transmittance of 79% (at 550 nm of wavelength).

Primary trimethylaminuria (TMAU) is characterized by systemic accumulation of trimethylamine (TMA) due to the deficient activity of flavin-containing monooxygenase 3 (FMO3). The disorder does not have detrimental pathophysiological consequences, but patients develop psychological symptoms due to the emotionally debilitating bodily odor defined as decaying fish that affects their quality of life. Here, we illustrate the utility of a diagnostic workup on an adolescent with primary TMAU, including biochemical and genetic investigations that confirm the diagnosis.

The transition between the Paleocene and Eocene epochs (ca. 56 Ma) was marked by a period of rapid global warming of 5 °C to 8 °C following a carbon isotope excursion (CIE) lasting 200 ky or less referred to as the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM). The PETM precipitated a significant shift in the composition of North American floral communities and major mammalian turnover.

Infectious disease is an important driver of extinctions and population declines. With a few exceptions, such as the fungal disease chytridiomycosis in frogs, disease is probably underestimated as a cause of both local and global extinction because it often co-occurs with other more overt drivers of extinction, and its signs can be easily overlooked. Here, we discuss issues around attributing extinction to infectious disease and overview key underlying factors.

The modern marine megafauna is known to play important ecological roles and includes many charismatic species that have drawn the attention of both the scientific community and the public. However, the marine megafauna has never been assessed as a whole, nor has it been defined in deep time. Here, we review the literature to define and list the species that constitute the marine megafauna, and to explore biological and ecological patterns throughout the Phanerozoic.

The burgeoning field of immunometabolism highlights the interdependence between metabolic programs and efficacious immune responses. The current understanding that cellular metabolic remodeling is necessary for a competent adaptive immune response, along with acutely sensitive methodologies such as high-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry and advanced proteomics, have ushered in a renaissance of lipid- and metabolic-based scientific inquiries. One facet of recent interest examines how lipids function as post-translational modifications (PTMs) and their resulting effects on adaptive immune responses.

Although the significance of some plant WRKYs in response to cold stress have been identified, the molecular mechanisms of most WRKYs remain unclear in grapevine. In this study, we demonstrate that cold-induced expression of in executes a beneficial role in enhancing resistance by the regulating starch decomposition. VaWRKY65 was identified as an upstream transcriptional activator of through yeast one-hybrid library screening and validated to directly interact with the W-box region inside the promoter.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to retrospectively assess the pathogens associated with feline ocular and respiratory diseases in routine diagnostic samples submitted to Georgia Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratories. Furthermore, pathogens detected by the respiratory PCR panel in the upper vs lower respiratory tract were compared (specimen separation at pharynx).
Methods: Test records from feline ocular and respiratory PCR panels were collected from 2012 to 2022.

The metaverse enables immersive virtual healthcare environments, presenting opportunities for enhanced care delivery. A key challenge lies in effectively combining multimodal healthcare data and generative artificial intelligence abilities within metaverse-based healthcare applications, which is a problem that needs to be addressed. This paper proposes a novel multimodal learning framework for metaverse healthcare, MMLMH, based on collaborative intra- and intersample representation and adaptive fusion.

Background: Limited literature is available to guide surgeons on which patients with insertional Achilles tendinopathy (IAT) may be the best candidates for minimally invasive dorsal closing wedge calcaneal Zadek osteotomy (MIS ZO). We hypothesized that the severity of IAT on preoperative magnetic resonance image (MRI) may correlate with post-operative functional outcomes and help guide patient selection for treatment with MIS ZO.
Methods: Patients who underwent MIS ZO for IAT ± Haglund deformity were identified and retrospectively analyzed.

Accurate data linkage across large administrative databases is crucial for addressing complex research and policy questions, yet linkage errors-stemming from inconsistent name representations-can introduce biases, predominantly for names not given in English. This data note examines the impact of romanisation on linkage accuracy, focusing on Chinese names and comparing standardised systems (Jyutping and Pinyin) with the non-standardised Hong Kong Government Cantonese Romanisation (HKG-romanisation). We identify three primary issues: language-specific variations in romanisation, the loss of tonal information inherent to tonal languages, and discrepancies in name order conventions.

Aims: Heart failure (HF) following acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is a global health concern, but data on risk factors associated with HF hospitalization post-AMI are limited.
Methods And Results: We analysed data from the Myocardial Ischaemia National Audit Project, including patients admitted with AMI from 1 January 2006 to 31 March 2019. Data linkage with Hospital Episode Statistics Admitted Patient Care and the Office for National Statistics facilitated a longitudinal analysis.

Clinical and epidemiological research is indispensable for improvements in evidence-based healthcare and health outcomes, but it also leaves important gaps in our understanding of health and illness. Qualitative research has been increasingly recognized as a key to addressing some of these gaps, using both exploratory (to gain a more complete and in-depth understanding of problems) and explanatory (to explain quantitative results) approaches. By finding out 'what's going on' and bringing people's stories to light, qualitative research is widely advocated as crucial in enhancing patient-centered research and healthcare.

Unlabelled: Predicting invasion risk to novel environments is essential for risk management and conservation decision making but the evolutionary lineage at which to make these predictions is often unclear. Here we predict the current suitability across the United Kingdom (UK) for the alpine newt , a species with a complex evolutionary history, a broad native range, a growing number of introduced populations and anecdotal reports of ecological consequences to native amphibian communities. We use species distribution and ecological niche modelling to predict environmental suitability of the alpine newt in the UK at both the species-level and lineage-level and to quantify evolutionary lineage niche overlap.
