Objective: Conduct a preliminary randomized trial that compared a 6-week type 2 diabetes (T2D) prevention programme to an educational video control for adults with pre-diabetes.
Methods: Adults (N = 62) with pre-diabetes were randomized to the group-delivered Project Health T2D or an educational video control, completing measures at pre-test, post-test and 3-month follow-up.
Results: Participants randomized to the intervention versus control condition showed significantly greater reductions in body fat (d = 0.

Background: David Farrington (1944-2024) wrote extensively about the methodological rigour and utility of the longitudinal-experimental research design to advance knowledge about the development, explanation, prevention and treatment of antisocial behaviour and criminal offending over the life-course. Founded in 1935, the Cambridge-Somerville Youth Study (CSYS) is recognised as the first randomised controlled trial in criminology and the first longitudinal-experimental study in criminology.
Aims: To report on key scientific and policy contributions made by the CSYS in investigating the development and prevention of delinquency and criminal offending over the life-course.

Objective: Time in range (TIR) is an important metric to measure variability of blood glucose levels. The aim is to quantify the long-term health benefits and economic return associated with improved TIR for individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Method: A Markov model with three states (T2D, T2D with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and death) estimated 20-year medical costs, quality-adjusted life-years (QALY) gained and CVD risk under four TIR scenarios: >85%, 71%-85%, 51%-70% and ≤50%.

Background: Partial heart transplantation (PHT) is a novel procedure for children in need of a growing valve replacement option. One challenge is identifying suitable donor valves. Semilunar heart valves from patients receiving a retransplant may be a source, however their functionality and growth potential especially at the time of retransplant are unknown.

Developing efficient, economical, and stable catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction is pivotal for producing large-scale green hydrogen in the future. Herein, a vanadium-doped nickel-iron oxide supported on nickel foam (V-NiFeO/NF) is introduced, and synthesized via a facile hydrothermal method as a highly efficient electrocatalyst for water electrolysis. X-ray photoelectron and absorption spectroscopies reveal a synergistic interaction between the vanadium dopant and nickel/iron in the host material, which tunes the electronic structure of NiFeO to increase the number of electrochemically active sites.

Background: The therapeutic management of patients with multivessel disease and severe left ventricular dysfunction is complex and controversial.
Aims: The aim of this study was to analyze the clinical outcomes and the changes in left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction and at least one chronic total occlusion (CTO) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with hemodynamic support provided by Impella.
Methods: Retrospective, multicenter study enrolling patients with severe left ventricular dysfunction and severe coronary artery disease with at least one CTO who required percutaneous mechanical circulatory support with Impella, from January 2019 to December 2023.

Introduction: Cerebrovascular pathologic changes (CVPC) are prevalent and associated with dementia in those ≥ 90 years. However, CVPC associations to traditional risk factors (hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia) are variable. We hypothesized that neither traditional risk factors nor related medications would be associated with CVPC presence.

Actinobacteria have frequently been reported in the Andean Puna, including strains of the genus Micrococcus. These strains demonstrate resistance to high levels of UV radiation, arsenic, and multiple antibiotics, and possess large linear plasmids. A comparative analysis of the sequences and putative functions of these plasmids was conducted.

Background: Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are persistent environmental contaminants previously used for industrial purposes as a non-stick coating and flame retardant. The stability of these molecules prevents their breakdown, which results in ground water contamination across the globe. Perfluoroalkyl substances molecules are known to bioaccumulate in various organisms.

Adolescent-onset schizophrenia (AOS) is relatively rare, under-studied, and associated with more severe cognitive impairments and poorer outcomes than adult-onset schizophrenia. Neuroimaging has shown altered regional activations (first-order effects) and functional connectivity (second-order effects) in AOS compared to controls. The pairwise maximum entropy model (MEM) integrates first- and second-order factors into a single quantity called energy, which is inversely related to probability of occurrence of brain activity patterns.

Introduction: The incidence of mortality late in the pandemic, particularly after widespread vaccine availability, is not well understood. Herein, we elucidate the effect of this impact of the COVID pandemic as well as risk factors for mortality during it.
Methods: The primary end point was death with a functioning graft with secondary endpoints of mortality rates in subgroups and at different time intervals during the pandemic.

Introduction: In the OPTIMISMM trial, pomalidomide/bortezomib/dexamethasone (PVd) significantly prolonged median progression-free survival (PFS) versus bortezomib/dexamethasone (Vd) in lenalidomide-exposed relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). We report final overall survival (OS) and updated efficacy analyses.
Methods: Adults with RRMM who had 1-3 prior regimens, including lenalidomide (≥ 2 cycles), were assigned (1:1) to PVd or Vd.

Background: Tricuspid regurgitation (TR) is common immediately after orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT), though the expected outcomes of TR over time remain undefined. In this study, we examined the natural trajectory of TR in the first 120 days post-transplantation. We observed the clinical phenotypes of trajectories of TR after OHT, and assessed trajectory correlation with 1-year mortality and degree of right ventricular (RV) dysfunction.

Oral budesonide exerts local effects with negligible systemic glucocorticoid activity, due to rapid first-pass metabolism, therefore, could potentially be efficacious in preventing gastrointestinal (GI) acute GVHD (aGVHD). We explored the use of budesonide, added to posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy), tacrolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil, for prevention of GI aGVHD after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) in a prospective observational study and treated 80 patients with a median age of 53 years (range 19-74). Results were compared with a publicly available CIBMTR dataset of 646 patients who received PTCy-based GVHD prophylaxis (CIBMTR Study # GV17-02) (control).

Introduction: Plaques are a hallmark feature of Alzheimer's disease (AD). We found that the loss of mucosal-associated invariant T (MAIT) cells and their antigen-presenting molecule MR1 caused a delay in plaque pathology development in AD mouse models. However, it remains unknown how this axis is impacting dystrophic neurites.
