Mucormycosis is a fungal infection caused by Mucorales fungi that cause severe disease and fatality, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Although vaccines and immunotherapeutics have been successful in combating viral and bacterial infections, approved antifungal immunotherapies are yet to be realized. To address this gap, monoclonal antibodies targeting invasive fungal infections have emerged as a promising approach, particularly for immunocompromised patients who are unlikely to maximally benefit from vaccines.

Congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) is the leading infectious cause of neonatal neurological impairment worldwide, but the viral factors enabling vertical spread across the placenta remain undetermined. The pentameric complex (PC), composed of the subunits gH/gL/UL128/UL130/UL131A, has been demonstrated to be important for entry into nonfibroblast cells in vitro. These findings link the PC to broad cell tropism and virus dissemination in vivo, denoting all subunits as potential targets for intervention strategies and vaccine development.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) consists of a group of immune-mediated disorders that can cause inflammation and progressive fibrosis of the lungs, representing an area of unmet medical need given the lack of disease-modifying therapies and toxicities associated with current treatment options. Tissue-specific splice variants (SVs) of human aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (aaRSs) are catalytic nulls thought to confer regulatory functions. One example from human histidyl-tRNA synthetase (HARS), termed HARS because the splicing event resulted in a protein encompassing the WHEP-TRS domain of HARS (a structurally conserved domain found in multiple aaRSs), is enriched in human lung and up-regulated by inflammatory cytokines in lung and immune cells.

This study introduces a self-powered flexible intelligent keyboard (SFIK) that harnesses the giant magnetoelastic effect to convert the mechanical pressure from key presses into electrical signals. The sensor boasts a wide sensing range (35 to 600 kPa) and a rapid response time (∼300 ms), allowing it to record and recognize individual keystroke dynamics.

We demonstrate the assembly of DNA nanostructures at constant temperatures ranging from 4° to 50°C in solutions containing different counterions. We propose a mechanism for generating single photons in the mid-infrared (MIR) using a solid-state or molecular quantum emitter. The scheme uses cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED) effects to selectively enhance a Frank-Condon transition, deterministically preparing a single Fock state of a polar phonon mode. By coupling the phonon mode to an antenna, the resulting excitation is then radiated to the far field as a single photon with a frequency matching the phonon mode.

U6 small nuclear RNA (U6 snRNA), a critical spliceosome component primarily found in the nucleus, plays a vital role in RNA splicing. Our previous study, using the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) macaque model, revealed an increase of U6 snRNA in plasma extracellular vesicles (EVs) in acute retroviral infection. Given the limited understanding of U6 snRNA dynamics across cells and EVs, particularly in SIV infection, this research explores U6 snRNA trafficking and its association with splicing proteins in the nucleus, cytoplasm, and EVs.

After an election, should election officials release a copy of each anonymous ballot? Some policy-makers have championed public disclosure to counter distrust, but others worry that it might undermine ballot secrecy. We introduce the term vote revelation to refer to the linkage of a vote on an anonymous ballot to the voter's name in the public voter file and detail how such revelation could theoretically occur. Using the 2020 election in Maricopa County, Arizona, as a case study, we show that the release of individual ballot records would lead to no revelation of any vote choice for 99.
