Introduction: Revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) is increasingly common, with sepsis being a serious but rare complication. Sepsis rates in rTHA vary widely, and understanding risk factors is crucial for improving outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the incidence of sepsis following rTHA and identify preoperative and intraoperative predictors.

Background: Achaete-Scute complex homolog 1 (ASCL1) is a multi-faceted pro-neural transcription factor, playing a role in several processes during embryonic development and into adulthood, including neural progenitor proliferation and neuronal differentiation. This versatility is achieved through tightly controlled expression of ASCL1, either via integrating intracellular signalling cues or stabilisation at the protein level. The role of kinases in ASCL1-mediated neurogenesis is emerging, but to date few kinases have been attributed to act directly or indirectly on ASCL1.

Existing technologies for distributed light-field mapping and light pollution monitoring (LPM) rely on either remote satellite imagery or manual light surveying with single-point sensors such as SQMs (sky quality meters). These modalities offer low-resolution data that are not informative for dense light-field mapping, pollutant identification, or sustainable policy implementation. In this work, we propose LightViz-an interactive software interface to survey, simulate, and visualize light pollution maps in real time.

Purpose Of Review: Herein we review recent trends in opioid prescribing, the rise in office-based surgeries, and propose a framework to minimize opioid consumption following such procedures.
Recent Findings: Outpatient surgical procedures are increasing year over year in the United States. This observed increase is expected to continue due to the financial incentives to perform outpatient procedures.

Purpose Of Review: Supragastric belching (SGB), rumination syndrome (RS), and abdominophrenic dyssynergia are often misunderstood and underdiagnosed syndromes. Better understanding of these conditions is needed to increase recognition and guide treatment.
Recent Findings: Diagnosis is typically made by history and physical examination though supplementary evaluations can be considered in difficult to diagnose cases.

Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease (LCPD), is a rare avascular osteonecrosis of the proximal femur usually occurring in children between 5 and 10 years of age. The cause of ischemia leading to necrosis of the femoral head remains unknown. The goal of surgical treatment for LCPD is to improve the containment of the femoral head to restore the function of the hip joint and prevent further damage to the femoral head leading to premature hip osteoarthritis.

Purpose: As the use of robotic platforms for inguinal hernia repairs continues to grow, the rTAPP (Robotic Trans-Abdominal Pre-Peritoneal) approach is being performed significantly more often than rTEP (Robotic Totally Extra-Peritoneal) and is predominantly taught to newly trained robotic surgeons. This study's primary objective was to evaluate the feasibility of a proposed modified rTEP technique that incorporates balloon dissection as a primary tool, enabling the horizontal placement of three trocars aligned with the umbilicus. Secondary objectives included evaluation of safety and effectiveness of this technique, and of the learning curve required to reach proficiency.

Signal peptide peptidase (SPP) is an ER-resident aspartyl intramembrane protease cleaving proteins within type II-oriented transmembrane segments. Here, we identified the tail-anchored protein Three prime repair exonuclease 1 (TREX1) as a novel substrate of SPP. Based on its DNase activity, TREX1 removes cytosolic DNA acting as a negative regulator of the DNA-sensing cGAS/STING pathway.

Introduction: Abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR) is associated with significant post-operative pain for which there is no standardized treatment regimen. Quadratus lumborum (QL) blocks have not been studied in open ventral hernia repair. This study reviews our institution's experience with QL blocks in open AWR.

Few studies explore the burden of mild-to-moderate atopic dermatitis (AD). We aimed to investigate disease burden in mild-to-moderate AD using real-world data from adults with AD and their physicians in the United States. Data were drawn from the Adelphi Real World AD Disease Specific Programme™, a cross-sectional survey of physicians and their patients with AD in real-world clinical practice in the US from November 2014 to February 2015.

Purpose: In the current study we evaluated a blend of ingredients containing mulberry leaf extract (to lower postprandial glucose of the evening meal), tryptophan (facilitator of the sleep initiation) to benefit sleep initiation and quality in adults with self-reported difficulties with sleep initiation.
Methods: Forty-three adults aged between 25 and 50 years enrolled in a randomized, crossover, double-blind, controlled trial. Participants received standardized meals with a glycemic load of 55 ± 10% and were assigned to receive treatment comprising a combination of mulberry leaf extract (750 mg), whey protein containing 120 mg tryptophan, zinc (1.

Shelat and Geisbrecht (in press) challenge Bedi et al.'s (Exp Brain Rese 242(8):2033-2040 2024b) position that perceptual decoupling in the Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) is unlikely. Instead they argue perceptual decoupling is likely in the SART and advocate for the SART's continued use in perceptual decoupling research.

Purpose: Despite the growing adoption of HIFU treatment for localized prostate cancer (PC), standardized criteria for evaluating success and predicting recurrence remain undefined. Herein, we analyze the predictive value of noninvasive tools such as PSA dynamics and MRI to determine recurrence.
Methods: We identified from our HIFU therapy prospective registry patients who developed biopsy-proven recurrence, between 2016 and 2023.

Purpose: Women with a history of sexual trauma (ST) have heightened risk for postpartum psychopathology. Although ST increases risk for traumatic delivery and maternal psychopathology, knowledge of the functional connections among various psychiatric symptoms and complicated delivery remains limited.
Methods: We used regularized partial correlation networks to examine connections between symptoms of childbirth-related PTSD (CB-PTSD), depression, anxiety, somatization, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and complicated delivery (e.

Purpose: There is very limited evidence on the optimal surgical treatment for patients with larger T2 renal tumors. This study aims to evaluate the oncologic outcomes of partial nephrectomy (PN) and radical nephrectomy (RN) in T2 renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
Methods: A retrospective data analysis was conducted on T2 RCC patients who underwent PN or RN between 2004 and 2019 using the SEER database, and validated with data from multiple centers in China from 2014 to 2019.

This study uses a crop simulation model driven by 40 years (1981-2020) of daily gridded meteorological data from PRISM to assess the impacts of spring freeze events on cherry trees, a representative temperate perennial tree-fruit crop, across six regions of the central and eastern USA: the Northern and Southern Great Plains (NGP, SGP), Upper Midwest (UMW), Ohio Valley (OHV), New York-Pennsylvania (NY-PA), and Virginia-North Carolina (VA-NC). Freeze damage exhibits a clear latitudinal gradient, with damage frequency and severity decreasing from south to north. The most frequent and severe damage occurs in the SGP, followed by VA-NC, while the least is observed in the UMW and NY-PA.

Background: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) is a crucial yet challenging multi-phase procedure for treating early gastrointestinal cancers. This study developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based automated surgical workflow recognition model for esophageal ESD and proposed an innovative training program based on esophageal ESD videos with or without AI labels to evaluate its effectiveness for trainees.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed complete ESD videos collected from seven hospitals worldwide between 2016 and 2024.
