Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) represents the second most common subtype of breast cancer (BC), accounting for up to 15% of all invasive BC. Loss of cell adhesion due to functional inactivation of E-cadherin is the hallmark of ILC. Although the current world health organization (WHO) classification for diagnosing ILC requires the recognition of the dispersed or linear non-cohesive growth pattern, it is not mandatory to demonstrate E-cadherin loss by immunohistochemistry (IHC).

Background: Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is an important cause of death as well as long-term disability in survivors. Erythropoietin has been hypothesized to have neuroprotective effects in infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, but its effects on neurodevelopmental outcomes when given in conjunction with therapeutic hypothermia are unknown.
Methods: In a multicenter, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial, we assigned 501 infants born at 36 weeks or more of gestation with moderate or severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy to receive erythropoietin or placebo, in conjunction with standard therapeutic hypothermia.

Advances in obstetric anesthesiology have historically exemplified how scientific progress can have a transformational impact on patient safety practices. Profound reductions in anesthesia-related maternal mortality in the 20th century highlighted the specialty of anesthesiology as a leader in safety and care quality. In 2020, maternal health faces new crises: preventable maternal mortality trends worldwide continue to stagnate, and in the United States of America, mortality rates are increasing, attributable to structural care limitations, systemic racism, and social determinants of health.

Purpose: Childbirth pain has been associated with the risk for postpartum depression. However, existing studies have been limited by the use of depression screening tools as outcomes, and none to date have used a structured clinical interview for DSM-V (SCID), which is considered the gold standard for psychiatric diagnoses. This study aimed to quantify the relationships between labor and postpartum pain and postpartum depression diagnosis detected by SCID, as well as depression symptoms detected by the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale (CESD) screening tool, among a high-risk cohort.

Abdominal wall endometriosis (AWE) is a rare type of endometriosis defined as endometrial glands and stroma located within the abdominal wall. Patients with a history of prior abdominal surgery classically present with cyclic abdominal pain and a palpable mass. Definitive diagnosis is made by pathologic tissue examination, but preoperative imaging with ultrasonography or MRI helps narrow the differential and informs surgical management.

Introduction: Oncology guidelines recommend participation in cancer rehabilitation or exercise services (CR/ES) to optimize survivorship. Yet, connecting the right survivor, with the right CR/ES, at the right time remains a challenge. The Exercise in Cancer Evaluation and Decision Support (EXCEEDS) algorithm was developed to enhance CR/ES clinical decision-making and facilitate access to CR/ES.

Triple-negative breast cancers (TNBCs) often have a high Ki-67 proliferation index and respond favorably to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) with pathologic complete response (pCR) resulting in ~40% of cases. Nevertheless, morbidity/mortality remain high, mostly due to recurrence in patients with residual disease. In contrast, the incidence and clinical features of TNBC with low proliferation (TNLP), defined as TNBC with a Ki-67 index of ≤30% remains unknown.

Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is defined as persistent or chronic discomfort perceived to be related to the urinary bladder accompanied by urinary urgency or frequency. Pharmacotherapies used to treat IC/BPS include oral and intravesical agents. Oral therapies include amitriptyline, hydroxyzine, cyclosporine A, and pentosan polysulfate sodium (PPS), although the recent finding of pigmented maculopathy with chronic PPS is very concerning and must be discussed with patients, many of whom will choose to either come off this medicine or not even start it.

Background: New-onset postpartum preeclampsia has a higher risk of maternal morbidity and mortality than preeclampsia with antepartum onset, underscoring the need for earlier identification of elevated blood pressure among patients with this condition. Given the decrease in healthcare engagement, which is typical of the postpartum period, new-onset postpartum hypertension often goes unrecognized. Currently, there are no recommendations for universal postpartum blood pressure surveillance in women without hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.
