Parent history of severe mental illness (PHSMI) may have long-term consequences in adult offspring due to genetic and early environmental factors in preliminary studies. Drift tube ion mobility spectrometry (DTIMS) coupled with mass spectrometry was used to determine the collision cross-sections (CCS) of polyoxometalate anions in helium and nitrogen. As the geometry of the ion, more than its mass, determines the collision cross-section with a given drift gas molecule, we found that both Lindqvist ions MoO and WO had a CCS value of 103 ± 2 Å, and both Keggin ions PMoO and PWO had a CCS value of 170 ± 2 Å. Similarly, ion mobility experiments in N led to CCS values of 223 ± 2 Å and 339 ± 4 Å for Lindqvist and Keggin anions, respectively.

Cells of most bacterial species are around 2 micrometers in length, with some of the largest specimens reaching 750 micrometers. Using fluorescence, x-ray, and electron microscopy in conjunction with genome sequencing, we characterized () Thiomargarita magnifica, a bacterium that has an average cell length greater than 9000 micrometers and is visible to the naked eye. These cells grow orders of magnitude over theoretical limits for bacterial cell size, display unprecedented polyploidy of more than half a million copies of a very large genome, and undergo a dimorphic life cycle with asymmetric segregation of chromosomes into daughter cells.

We show the first experiment of a transverse laser interference for electron injection into the laser plasma accelerators. Simulations show such an injection is different from previous methods, as electrons are trapped into later acceleration buckets other than the leading ones. With optimal plasma tapering, the dephasing limit of such unprecedented electron beams could be potentially increased by an order of magnitude.
