Unbalanced translocation between chromosomes X and Y is a recurring chromosomal rearrangement. The presence of a derivative chromosome X (derX), where a Yq11-qter segment is attached to the short arm of chromosome X, replacing a terminal Xpter-p22.31, poses challenges for interpretation of findings by prenatal cell-free DNA (cfDNA) screening, establishing genotype-phenotype correlation in male and female individuals, and for genetic counseling.

Anesthesia clinicians often navigate a delicate balance between maternal and fetal safety. Interventions for at fetal well-being may introduce risks of harm to the mother and raise ethical dilemmas. Emergency procedures often focus on direct fetal safety, sidelining maternal physical and mental well-being.

Anti-PP1P alloimmunization is rare given ubiquitous P1PK expression. Prevention of recurrent miscarriages and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) in pregnant individuals with anti-PP1P antibodies has relied upon individual reports. Here, we demonstrate the successful management of maternal anti-PP1P alloimmunization in a 23-year-old, G2P0010, with therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), and monitoring of anti-PP1P titers.

We sought to describe characteristics of mechanically ventilated pregnant patients, evaluate utilization of low-tidal-volume ventilation (LTVV) and high-tidal-volume ventilation (HTVV) by trimester, and describe maternal and fetal outcomes by ventilation strategy. This is a retrospective cohort study of pregnant women with mechanical ventilation for greater than 24 hours between July 2012 and August 2020 at a tertiary care academic medical center. We defined LTVV as average daily tidal volume 8 mL/kg of less of predicted body weight, and HTVV as greater than 8 mL/kg.

Introduction: The evidence basis for therapy selection in women who have failed primary stress urinary incontinence (SUI) surgery is limited. The ICI-RS group discussed the available data at its meeting in June 2023, particularly the anatomical characteristics as assessed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasound (US) modalities, functional characteristics associated with storage and voiding urodynamic assessment, as well as the patient characteristics that might influence outcomes. This paper summarizes the evidence base that supported these discussions and offers the basis for research proposals for future groups.

In this narrative review, we describe historical and contemporary influences that prevent patients with fibroids from getting appropriate medical care. Using patient stories as examples, we highlight how misogyny on all levels hurts patients and prevents medical teams from doing their best. Importantly, inequity and disparities result in massive gaps in care delivery.

Importance: Each year in the US, approximately 100 000 people are treated for cervical precancer, 14 000 people are diagnosed with cervical cancer, and 4000 die of cervical cancer.
Observations: Essentially all cervical cancers worldwide are caused by persistent infections with one of 13 carcinogenic human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes: 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, and 68. HPV vaccination at ages 9 through 12 years will likely prevent more than 90% of cervical precancers and cancers.

Background: A diet high in parent's own milk (parental milk) is a lifesaving intervention for critically ill infants. Lactating parents whose infants are born with birth defects that require surgical repair (surgical infants) shortly after birth often struggle to initiate and maintain a milk supply that meets their infant's nutritional needs. Antenatal milk expression has been identified as a safe, feasible, and potentially effective strategy that promotes parents' direct chest/breastfeeding or milk expression (lactation) confidence and helps parents attain their lactation goals.
