Background: Longitudinal qualitative data on what matters to people with Parkinson's disease are lacking and needed to guide patient-centered clinical care and development of outcome measures.

Objective: To evaluate change over time in symptoms, impacts, and relevance of digital measures to monitor disease progression in early Parkinson's.

Methods: In-depth, online symptom mapping interviews were conducted with 33 people with early Parkinson's at baseline and 1 year later to evaluate (A) symptoms, (B) impacts, and (C) relevance of digital measures to monitor personally relevant symptoms.

Assessing Clinical Improvement of Infants Hospitalized for Respiratory Syncytial Virus-Related Critical Illness.

Background: Pediatric respiratory syncytial virus (RSV)-related acute lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) commonly requires hospitalization. The Clinical Progression Scale Pediatrics (CPS-Ped) measures level of respiratory support and degree of hypoxia across a range of disease severity, but it has not been applied in infants hospitalized with severe RSV-LRTI.

Human HKU1-reactive CD4 T cells are enriched for cytolytic potential that persists in older adults.

The emergence of SARS-CoV-2 increased interest in cellular immunity established by infections with human coronaviruses (HCoVs). Using PBMC from a cohort of human subjects collected prior to 2019, we assessed the abundance and phenotype of these CD4 T cells using cytokine Elispot assays. Unexpectedly, cytotoxic potential was uniquely enriched amongst HKU1-reactive CD4 T cells, as measured by quantification of granzyme producing cells.

Obstetric penicillin allergy evaluations.

Background: Penicillin allergy is reported in 5% to 15% of the world population, with 3% to 10% of pregnant women reporting the same. However, more than 90% of these patients can tolerate penicillin after appropriate evaluation. Penicillin is indicated for various issues that arise in pregnancy, and a history of allergy can have negative individual and public health consequences.

Multilevel intervention for follow-up of abnormal FIT in the safety-net: IMProving Adherence to Colonoscopy through Teams and Technology (IMPACTT).

Background: Fecal immunochemical testing (FIT) is a widely used first step for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. Abnormal FIT results require a colonoscopy for screening completion and CRC diagnosis, but the rate of timely colonoscopy is low, especially among patients in safety-net settings. Multi-level factors at the clinic- and patient-levels influence colonoscopy completion after an abnormal FIT.

Microarousals (MAs), brief (3- to 15-s-long) wake intrusions into sleep, are clinical markers for various sleep disorders. Recent rodent studies show that MAs during healthy non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep are driven by infraslow fluctuations of noradrenaline (NA) in coordination with electrophysiological rhythms, vasomotor activity, cerebral blood volume, and glymphatic flow.

Cardiac strangulation by epicardial pacing wires in adults.

Like children, adult patients with active or abandoned epicardial pacing leads are also at risk of developing life-threatening cardiac ischemia due to mechanical compression of the coronary arteries. As this complication is amenable to surgical removal, these patients require periodic evaluation for myocardial ischemia even if they are asymptomatic.

The cranial mesenchyme, originating from both neural crest and mesoderm, imparts remarkable regional specificity and complexity to postnatal calvarial tissue. While the distinct embryonic origins of the superior and dura periosteum of the cranial parietal bone have been described, the extent of their respective contributions to bone and vessel formation during adult bone defect repair remains superficially explored. Utilizing transgenic mouse models in conjunction with high-resolution multiphoton laser scanning microscopy (MPLSM), we have separately evaluated bone and vessel formation in the superior and dura periosteum before and after injury, as well as following intermittent treatment of recombinant peptide of human parathyroid hormone (rhPTH), Teriparatide.

Cachexia is a systemic wasting syndrome prevalent in patients with cancer that significantly affects quality of life, health care costs, and therapeutic outcomes. Despite its clinical importance, cachexia is rarely formally diagnosed. This deficiency presents a challenge for effective patient management and care, health care resource allocation, and the advancement of therapeutic approaches.

Speech intonation conveys a wealth of linguistic and social information, such as the intention to ask a question versus make a statement. However, due to the considerable variability in our speaking voices, the mapping from meaning to intonation can be many-to-many and often ambiguous. 40S ribosomal subunits scan mRNA for the start codon by one-dimensional diffusion.

During eukaryotic translation initiation, the small (40S) ribosomal subunit is recruited to the 5' cap and subsequently scans the 5' untranslated region (5' UTR) of mRNA in search of the start codon. The molecular mechanism of mRNA scanning remains unclear. Here, using GFP reporters in cells, we show that order-of-magnitude variations in the lengths of unstructured 5' UTRs have a modest effect on protein synthesis.

Hypothermia, Hallucinations, and Atrial Fibrillation Secondary to Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma.

Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) in adults, constituting a significant portion of global incidence rates. DLBCL can be further classified via genetic expression profiling into molecular subsets consisting of not-otherwise specified (NOS) subset being the most prevalent, germinal center B-cell-like (GCB) subset, and activated B-cell-like (ABC) subset. The ABC subset, marked by abnormal NF-κB signaling, is associated with poorer outcomes.

Implications of Charge and Heteroatom Dopants on the Thermodynamics and Kinetics of Redox Reactions in Keggin-Type Polyoxometalates.

The utilization of polyoxometalate-based materials is largely dictated by their redox properties. Detailed understanding of the thermodynamic and kinetic efficiency of charge transfer is therefore essential to the development of polyoxometalate-based systems for target applications. Toward this end, we report electrochemical studies of a series of heteroatom-doped Keggin-type polyoxotungstate clusters [PWO] ( ), [VWO] ( ), [P(VW)O] ( ), and [V(VW)O] ( ) to elucidate the role of the identity and spatial location of heteroatoms and overall cluster charge on the rate constants of electron transfer and redox reaction entropies.

Exploring the gaps: A scoping review of burn injury research in skin of colour.

Burn injury management and outcomes reveal observed disparities in individuals with darker skin tones, likely influenced by limited representation in medical literature and clinical research. These gaps may contribute to variations in care quality and outcomes for these populations. A comprehensive literature search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and Embase databases, initially yielding 74 articles.

Impact of age-related changes in buccal epithelial cells on pediatric epigenetic biomarker research.

Cheek swabs, heterogeneous samples consisting primarily of buccal epithelial cells, are widely used in pediatric DNA methylation studies and biomarker creation. However, the decrease in buccal proportion with age in adults remains unexamined in childhood. We analyzed cheek swabs from 4626 typically developing children 2-months to 20-years-old.

Spontaneous conversion of fetal heart block to sinus rhythm post externalized pacemaker placement in an undiagnosed mother with lupus antibodies.

The incidence for congenital heart block is estimated as high as 1 in 15,000 live births. Up to 90% of cases of congenital heart block, in which there is no anatomical abnormalities, are attributed to maternal systemic lupus erythematous or Sjögren's disease. 50% of these mothers are asymptomatic at time of diagnosis.

Patient-reported outcomes using PROMIS after tarsal tunnel release surgery.

Tarsal tunnel syndrome is an entrapment neuropathy of the tibial nerve and its branches in the tarsal tunnel. The literature on surgical release of the tarsal tunnel shows variable outcomes with no studies reporting validated patient reported outcomes. We aim to determine clinical response after tarsal tunnel release using the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System (PROMIS).

The competitive esports physiological, affective, and video dataset.

Esports refers to competitive video gaming where individuals compete against each other in organized tournaments for prize money. Here, we present the Competitive Esports Physiological, Affective, and Video (CEPAV) dataset, in which 300 male Counter Strike: Global Offensive gamers participated in a study aimed at optimizing affect during esports tournament. The CEPAV dataset includes (1) physiological data, capturing the player's cardiovascular responses from before, during, and after over 3000 CS: GO matches; (2) self-reported affective data, detailing the affective states experienced before gameplay; and (3) video data, providing a visual record of 552 in-laboratory gaming sessions.

Association between oral microbiome dysbiosis and Sjogren Syndrome. A systematic review of clinical studies.

Objectives: This systematic review investigates the association of oral microbiome dysbiosis with Sjogren Syndrome (SS).

Materials And Methods: Indexed databases (PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, OVID, Web of Science, and Scopus) were independently searched for relevant manuscripts published until August 2024. Clinical studies on oral microbial flora count and diversity in SS patients were included.

Do socioeconomic factors impair uptake of neoadjuvant therapy for patients with locoregional oesophageal cancer?

Objectives: The benefits of neoadjuvant therapy prior to surgery for patients with locally advanced oesophageal cancer have been well established by multiple trials. However, there may be socioeconomic barriers impacting equitable administration. We aim to identify whether disparities exist in uptake of neoadjuvant therapy among patients with loco-regional oesophageal cancer.
