Hashimoto thyroiditis and Graves' disease are autoimmune thyroid disorders that are common in women of reproductive age and have a complex relationship with female fertility and health of the maternal-fetal dyad. Both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, whether subclinical or overt in severity, directly or indirectly affect nearly every level of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovary axis, uterine and ovarian function, as well as fetal development from implantation through delivery. Autoimmunity itself also appears to negatively impact both spontaneous and assisted fertility, as well as miscarriage risk, although the mechanism remains unclear, and the presence and magnitude of risk is variable in published literature.

Cellular metabolism is influenced by the stiffness of the extracellular matrix. Focal adhesion kinase (FAK) and its binding partner, p130Cas, transmit biomechanical signals, such as substrate stiffness, to the cell to regulate a variety of cellular responses, but their roles in early transcriptional and metabolic responses remain largely unexplored. We cultured mouse embryonic fibroblasts with or without siRNA-mediated FAK or p130Cas knockdown and assessed the early transcriptional responses of these cells to placement on soft and stiff substrates by RNA sequencing and bioinformatics analyses.

The Canadian Consortium on Neurodegeneration in Aging (CCNA) was created by the Canadian federal government through its health research funding agency, the Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR), in 2014, as a response to the G7 initiative to fight dementia. Comparing the atmospheric deposition chemistry between above and below the planetary boundary layer (PBL) may help understand the impacts from inter-regional air pollutant transport and local emissions to air pollutant deposition. In this study, we monitored ions, soluble and insoluble potentially toxic elements (PTEs), and dissolved organic nitrogen and carbon at the base (M-base: 551 m asl), middle (M-middle: 2400 m asl), and summit (M-summit: 3077 m asl) on Mount Emei. The annual volume-weighted mean (VWM) concentrations of all measured components were substantially higher at M-base than at M-summit, except for Na, Cl, and NO as Na and Cl at M-summit may be largely from ocean and NO to NO transformation may be faster at M-base.

Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis (SIAD)-the most frequent cause of hypotonic hyponatremia-is mediated by nonosmotic release of arginine vasopressin, which promotes water retention by activating renal vasopressin type 2 (V2) receptors. There are numerous causes of SIAD, including malignancy, pulmonary and central nervous system diseases, and medications. Rare activating mutations of the V2 receptor can also cause SIAD.
