Introduction: Ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1) is recognized as a diagnostic and prognostic blood biomarker for traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study aimed to evaluate whether UCH-L1 concentrations measured in patients' urine post-injury could serve as a diagnostic or prognostic biomarker for outcomes in various types of acute brain injuries (ABI).

These clinical features may co-occur, with four main disease entities including epilepsy with developmental epileptic encephalopathy such as infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (LGS), axonal Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 2O, spinal muscular atrophy with lower extremity-predominance (SMALED), and congenital cortical malformations. Epilepsy associated with this disorder often becomes drug-resistant and requires multiple medications and, in some cases, non-pharmacological treatments.

Proteins that selectively bind to a target of interest are foundational components of research pipelines, diagnostics, and therapeutics. Current immunization-based, display-based, and computational approaches for discovering binders are laborious and time-consuming - taking months or more, suffer from high false positives - necessitating extensive secondary screening, and have a high failure rate, especially for disordered proteins and other challenging target classes. Here we establish Phage-Assisted Non-Continuous Selection of Protein Binders (PANCS-binders), an selection platform that links the life cycle of M13 phage to target protein binding though customized proximity-dependent split RNA polymerase biosensors, allowing for complete and comprehensive high-throughput screening of billion-plus member protein variant libraries with high signal-to-noise.

In this emulated comparative effectiveness target trial of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and sulfonylurea therapy among adults with type 2 diabetes at moderate cardiovascular disease risk, sulfonylurea use was associated with a significantly higher risk of hypoglycemia requiring emergency department or hospital care than treatment with DPP-4 inhibitors, GLP-1 receptor agonists, or SGLT2 inhibitors. This consideration can guide the choice of glucose-lowering therapy in this highly prevalent patient population, in whom avoidance of hypoglycemia is important, yet among whom the risk of severe hypoglycemia has not been examined previously.

Increases in mean lesional iron content by quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) by ≥6% and/or vascular permeability by dynamic contrast enhanced quantitative perfusion (DCEQP) by ≥40% on MRI have been associated with new symptomatic hemorrhage (SH) in cerebral cavernous malformations (CCMs). We measure the response of open-cell polyurethane foams filled with a dense suspension of fumed silica particles in polyethylene glycol at compression speeds spanning several orders of magnitude. The gradual compressive stress increase of the composite material indicates the existence of shear rate gradients in the interstitial suspension caused by wide distributions in pore sizes in the disordered foam network. The energy dissipated during compression scales with an effective internal shear rate, allowing for the collapse of three data sets for different pore-size foams.

Objective: To characterize patient and referring physician preferences when selecting where to have elective imaging performed METHODS: In this Institutional Research Board approved survey-based study, online surveys were completed by 393 patients who had recently had a non-contrast MRI of the shoulder, lumbar spine, or knee within the past 2 years and 168 physicians who had ordered at least 12 such MRIs in the past year. The survey data included explicit questions about preferences as well as a set of conjoint choice screens. Conjoint analysis utilized a logistic model estimated using maximum likelihood estimation.
