Mitigation of motion effects in pencil-beam scanning - Impact of repainting on 4D robustly optimized proton treatment plans for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Z Med Phys

February 2022

West German Proton Therapy Centre Essen, Am Mühlenbach 1, 45147 Essen, Germany; University Hospital Essen, Hufelandstr. 55, Essen, Germany; West German Cancer Center (WTZ), Hufelandstr. 55, Essen, Germany.

Proton fields delivered by the active scanning technique can be interfered with the intrafractional motion. This in-silico study seeks to mitigate the dosimetric impacts of motion artifacts, especially its interplay with the time-modulated dose delivery. Here four-dimensional (4d) robust optimization and dose repainting, which is the multiple application of the same field with reduced fluence, were combined.

Background: Previous studies investigated cold-evoked potentials (CEPs) for the assessment of the integrity of cold-mediating A-delta fibres and the spinothalamic tract. Nevertheless, several methodological questions remained unanswered to proceed to clinical application. How do latencies and amplitudes vary between CEPs and contact heat-evoked potentials (CHEPs)? Are there differences between variable and fixed thermode positions or between glabrous and hairy skin? Are CEPs recordable in patients with abnormal cold processing?

Methods: A total of 16 healthy subjects were tested with CEPs and CHEPs at the face, hand and foot.

Following a several-day incubation in medium containing IL-3 and M-CSF to generate a more plastic intermediate "reprogrammed multipotent cells of monocytic origin (RMCMO)," peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) can be efficiently converted to hepatocyte-like cells (neohepatocytes) and insulin-producing cells. However, continuous efforts are devoted to enhancing the proliferative capacity of these multipotent cells while maintaining or further increasing their redifferentiation potential. In the present work, PBMCs were transfected with one pluripotency gene () and the resulting RMCMO compared to standard RMCMO with respect to cell viability, proliferative activity, and redifferentiation potential.

There is currently no standardized method for reporting audiological, surgical and subjective outcome measures in clinical trials with active middle ear implants (AMEIs). It is often difficult to compare studies due to data incompatibility and to perform meta-analyses across different centres is almost impossible. A committee of ENT and audiological experts from Germany, Austria and Switzerland decided to address this issue by developing new minimal standards for reporting the outcomes of AMEI clinical trials.

Integration of Murine and Human Studies for Mapping Periodontitis Susceptibility.

J Dent Res

May 2018

1 Department of Prosthodontics, Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine, Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel.

Periodontitis is one of the most common inflammatory human diseases with a strong genetic component. Due to the limited sample size of available periodontitis cohorts and the underlying trait heterogeneity, genome-wide association studies (GWASs) of chronic periodontitis (CP) have largely been unsuccessful in identifying common susceptibility factors. A combination of quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping in mice with association studies in humans has the potential to discover novel risk loci.
