Background: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus caused the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic, and the prevalence of deaths among men is higher than among women. The epididymis, divided into caput, corpus, and cauda, shows a region-specific immunity. The K18-hACE2 mouse expresses human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (hACE2), the receptor that allows SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Background: The combination of photodynamic therapy (PDT) and LL-37 has never been tested in an animal study and our research team background suggests this strategy might be a promising alternative to intensify periodontitis resolution. This study aimed to assess the effects of multiple sessions of PDT with chlorin-e6 conjugated to the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 loaded nanoemulsion, as adjunctive therapy in experimental periodontitis in rats.
Methods: Experimental periodontitis was induced in 81 rats.

In our previous studies, Chlorin-e6 (Ce6) demonstrated a significant reduction of microorganisms' viability against multi-species biofilm related to periodontitis while irradiated with blue light. However, the conjugation of Ce6 and antimicrobial peptides, and the incorporation of this photosensitizer in a nanocarrier, is still poorly explored. We hypothesized that chlorin-e6 conjugated to the antimicrobial peptide LL-37 loaded nanoemulsion could inhibit a multi-species biofilm related to periodontitis during photodynamic therapy (PDT), the pre-treatment with hydrogen peroxide was also tested.

Objective: To assess the effects of pre-treatment with proanthocyanidins (PA) flavonoids, from grape seed extract, and synthetic naringenin (NA) on the synthesis of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) gelatinases and their tissue inhibitors (TIMPs), as well as the gelatinolytic activity of MMPs by human gingival fibroblasts (HGF) and osteoblasts (Ob) exposed to zoledronic acid (ZA) in a dental implant surface in vitro model.
Design: The highest non-cytotoxic concentrations of NA and PA were determined for HGF (10 μg/mL; defined by previous study) and Ob (0.5 μg/mL; defined by prestoBlue assay).

To evaluate the osteoconductive potential of inorganic biomaterials of bovine origin submitted to different temperatures in the bone repair of critical defects in rat calvaria. Forty-eight rats were divided into four groups according to the material used to fill the defect: control group (GC), the defect was filled only with blood clot (n = 12); GBO, defect filled with Bio-Oss®, deproteinzed at 300°C (n = 12); GOX, defect filled with Inorganic GenOx®, deproteinzed from 850 to 1200°C (n = 12) and G700, defect filled with Inorganic GenOx 700, deproteinzed at 700°C (n = 12). In each animal's calvaria, a trephine bur with 5 mm internal diameter was used to produce a 6 mm-diameter central defect.

Background: Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are treated by different modalities including splints, physiotherapy, and acupuncture. Although all of these offer evidencebased benefits to the patients, avoiding overtreatment is of paramount importance.
Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of muscle pain treatment with acupuncture combined with or without occlusal splints.

This study was carried out in response to the Zika virus epidemic, which constituted a public health emergency, and to the 2019 WHO calling for strengthened surveillance for the early detection of related microcephaly. The main aim of the study was to phenotype the craniofacial morphology of microcephaly using a novel approach and new measurements, and relate the characteristics to brain abnormalities in Zika-infected infants in Brazil to improve clinical surveillance. 3D images of the face and the cranial vault of 44 Zika-infected infants and matched healthy controls were captured using a 3D stereophotogrammetry system.

Background: Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) is used as an adjunct to endodontic treatment to enhance microbial reduction in the root canal system. However, studies evaluating the impact of laser ablation with Indocyanine Green (ICG) are scarce. Thus, this in vitro study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of laser ablation with ICG using different laser parameters compared with aPDT using photosensitizer methylene blue (MB) and curcumin (CUR) on the reduction of E.

Objective: To evaluate the optical, chemical, and mechanical properties of feldspathic porcelain after handling with different instrument materials.
Material And Methods: Feldspathic porcelain was manipulated with different spatula compositions: metal spatula (MS), plastic spatula (PS), and glass spatula (GS) for the fabrication of 30 (n = 10) disks. Contrast ratio (CR), translucency parameter (TP), and surface Knoop microhardness (KHN) were measured.

Statement Of Problem: Consumption of some beverages and aging may affect the color of dental materials used in fixed prosthodontics, but their effect on recently introduced materials is not well known.
Purpose: The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate staining, aging, and the exposure interval on color changes of computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) resin nanoceramics (RNC), polymer-infiltrated ceramic-network (PICN) materials, and lithium silicate and lithium disilicate ceramics.
Material And Methods: A total of 288 square-shaped, 1-mm-thick specimens prepared from Cerasmart, IPS e.

Objectives: In this in vivo animal study, we evaluated the effect of plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) coating on the topographic and biological parameters of implants installed in rats with induced osteoporosis and low-quality bones.
Materials And Methods: In total 44 Wistar rats (Rattus novergicus), 6 months old, were submitted to ovariectomy (OXV group) and dummy surgery (SHAM group). After 90 days, the ELISA test was performed and the ovariectomy effectiveness was confirmed.

Aim: To investigate the effect of different alcohol concentrations on the development of apical periodontitis (AP) in rats.
Methods: Forty Wistar rats were arranged into five groups: (C) - control rats receiving sterile water as the only liquid; (G5) - animals receiving an alcohol solution at 5%, (G10) - alcohol solution at 10%, (G15) - alcohol solution at 15%, and (G20) - alcohol solution at 20%. The alcoholic solution or water was given to the groups as the sole source of hydration throughout the 30 days of the experiment.

Treatment with cumulative dosages of zoledronic acid (ZA) in elderly patients is a risk factor for the development of medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ), mainly related to surgical triggers such as tooth extraction. However, animal models for the investigation and understanding of MRONJ pathophysiology in senescent and postmenopausal stages remains to be developed and characterized. The aim of this study was to analyze MRONJ development in senescent female mice treated with cumulative dosages of ZA.

Peripheral cement-ossifying fibroma is a relatively common gingival growth of a reactive rather than neoplastic nature, whose pathogenesis is uncertain. It predominantly affects adolescents and young adults, with peak prevalence between 10 and 19 years. We report here the clinical case of a 5-year-old girl with disease duration of 3 years, who was followed up for 4 years, showing a gingival health and normal radiopacity of bone.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the clinical use of the gallium-aluminum-arsenium (GaAlAs) laser at the maximum and minimum energies recommended by the manufacturer for the treatment of dentine hypersensitivity.
Background Data: Dentine hypersensitivity (DH) is a response to a stimulus that would not usually cause pain in a healthy tooth. It is characterized by sharp pain of short duration from the denuded dentin.
