Proteomics has been little used for the identification of novel prognostic and/or therapeutic markers in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-wildtype glioblastoma (GB). In this study, we analyzed 50 tumor and 30 serum samples from short- and long-term survivors of IDH-wildtype GB (STS and LTS, respectively) by data-independent acquisition mass spectrometry (DIA-MS)-based proteomics, with the aim of identifying such markers. DIA-MS identified 5422 and 826 normalized proteins in tumor and serum samples, respectively, with only three tumor proteins and 26 serum proteins displaying significant differential expression between the STS and LTS groups.

The ISAGA immunocapture test for the detection of anti-Toxoplasma immunoglobulin M is a manual technique known for its excellent sensitivity and specificity. The purpose of this retrospective, multicenter study was to compare the performances and agreement between ISAGA and other IgM detection techniques before cessation of ISAGA production. The analytic performance of the different tests was evaluated using 1,341 serum samples from adults with positive IgM and negative IgG to Toxoplasma gondii, and 1,206 sera from neonates born to mothers with seroconversion.

Background: Several scores have been developed to predict mortality at anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) diagnosis. Their prognostic value in Caucasian patients with kidney involvement (AAV-GN) remains uncertain as none has been developed in this specific population. We aimed to propose a novel and more accurate score specific for them.

Background: The von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease is a hereditary tumour syndrome caused by germline mutations in tumour suppressor gene. The identification of variants requires accurate classification which has an impact on patient management and genetic counselling.
Methods: The TENGEN (French oncogenetics network of neuroendocrine tumors) and PREDIR (French National Cancer Institute network for Inherited predispositions to kidney cancer) networks have collected genetic variants and clinical characteristics of all VHL-suspected patients analysed from 2003 to 2021 by one of the nine laboratories performing genetic testing in France.

Nanotechnology application in cancer treatment is promising and is likely to quickly spread worldwide in the near future. To date, most scientific studies on nanomaterial development have focused on deepening the attitudes of end users and experts, leaving clinical practice implications unexplored. Neuro-oncology might be a promising field for the application of nanotechnologies, especially for malignant brain tumors with a low-survival rate such as glioblastoma (GBM).

Enzymatic cross-linking of the bone collagen is important to resist to crack growth and to increased flexural strength. In the present study, we proposed a new method for assessment of enzymatic cross-link based on Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy that takes into account secondary structure of type I collagen. Briefly, femurs were collected from sham or ovariectomized mice and subjected either to high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry or embedded in polymethylmethacrylate, cut and analyzed by FTIR microspectroscopy.

Objectives: To determine the epidemiological cut-off values (ECVs) of ten antifungal agents in a wide range of yeasts and Aspergillus spp. using gradient concentration strips.
Methods: The minimum inhibitory concentrations for amphotericin B, anidulafungin, caspofungin, micafungin, flucytosine, fluconazole, itraconazole, isavuconazole, posaconazole, and voriconazole, determined with gradient concentration strips at 35 French microbiology laboratories between 2002 and 2020, were retrospectively collected.

Mutations in (), which encode a key player of mitochondrial and peroxisomal fission, have been reported in patients with the variable phenotypic spectrum, ranging from non-syndromic optic atrophy to lethal infantile encephalopathy. Here, we report a case of an adult female patient presenting with a complex neurological phenotype that associates axonal sensory neuropathy, spasticity, optic atrophy, dysarthria, dysphasia, dystonia, and ataxia, worsening with aging. Whole-exome sequencing revealed a heterozygous variant in the GTPase domain of [NM_001278464.

Background: This study examined prospective associations between atypical working hours with subsequent tobacco, cannabis and alcohol use as well as sugar and fat consumption.
Methods: In the French population-based CONSTANCES cohort, 47,288 men and 53,324 women currently employed included between 2012 and 2017 were annually followed for tobacco and cannabis use. Among them, 35,647 men and 39,767 women included between 2012 and 2016 were also followed for alcohol and sugar and fat consumption.

In order to standardize cellular hematology practices, the French-speaking Cellular Hematology Group (Groupe Francophone d'Hématologie Cellulaire, GFHC) focused on Perls' stain. A national survey was carried out, leading to the proposal of recommendations on insoluble iron detection and quantification in bone marrow. The criteria presented here met with a "strong professional agreement" and follow the suggestions of the World Health Organization's classification of hematological malignancies.

Deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (DOHH) is the enzyme catalyzing the second step in the post-translational synthesis of hypusine [N-(4-amino-2-hydroxybutyl)lysine] in the eukaryotic initiation factor 5A (eIF5A). Hypusine is formed exclusively in eIF5A by two sequential enzymatic steps catalyzed by deoxyhypusine synthase (DHPS) and deoxyhypusine hydroxylase (DOHH). Hypusinated eIF5A is essential for translation and cell proliferation in eukaryotes, and all three genes encoding eIF5A, DHPS, and DOHH are highly conserved throughout eukaryotes.

Aims: To examine the longitudinal associations between cannabis use and risks of short (<7 days), medium (7-28 days), and long (>28 days) sickness absences at one-year follow-up.
Methods: 87,273 participants aged 18-65 years from the French CONSTANCES cohort reported their frequency of cannabis use at inclusion between 2012 and 2018. Sickness absences occurring during one year of follow-up were collected from national medico-administrative registries.

Background & Aims: Acute intermittent porphyria (AIP), caused by heterozygous germline mutations of the heme synthesis pathway enzyme HMBS (hydroxymethylbilane synthase), confers a high risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development. Yet, the role of HMBS in liver tumorigenesis remains unclear.
Methods: Herein, we explore HMBS alterations in a large series of 758 HCC cases, including 4 patients with AIP.

Introduction: The "Renal Risk Score" (RRS) and the histopathological classification have been proposed to predict the risk of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) in ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis (ANCA-GN). Besides, factors associated with kidney function recovery after ANCA-GN onset remain to be more extensively studied. In the present study, we analyzed the value of the RRS and of the histopathological classification for ESKD prediction.

Aim: Rosette-forming glioneuronal tumour (RGNT) is a rare central nervous system (CNS) World Health Organization (WHO) grade 1 brain neoplasm. According to the WHO 2021, essential diagnostic criteria are a 'biphasic histomorphology with neurocytic and a glial component, and uniform neurocytes forming rosettes and/or perivascular pseudorosettes associated with synaptophysin expression' and/or DNA methylation profile of RGNT whereas 'FGFR1 mutation with co-occurring PIK3CA and/or NF1 mutation' are desirable criteria.
Material And Methods: We report a series of 46 cases fulfilling the essential pathological diagnostic criteria for RGNT.

We examined the prospective association of physical exertion at work with subsequent tobacco, cannabis, alcohol use, and sugar and fat consumption. Volunteers of the French population-based CONSTANCES cohort currently employed were included from 2012 to 2017 for tobacco and cannabis outcomes (n = 100,612), and from 2012 to 2016 for alcohol and sugar and fat outcomes (n = 75,414). High level of physical exertion at work was defined as a score ≥ 12 at the Rating Perceived Exertion Borg scale.
