Background: Several rare surfactant-related gene (SRG) variants associated with interstitial lung disease are suspected to be associated with lung cancer, but data are missing. We aimed to study the epidemiology and phenotype of lung cancer in an international cohort of SRG variant carriers.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of all adults with SRG variants in the OrphaLung network and compared lung cancer risk with telomere-related gene (TRG) variant carriers.

Erythropoietin (Epo) and its receptor are expressed in central respiratory areas. We hypothesized that chronic Epo deficiency alters functioning of central respiratory areas and thus the respiratory adaptation to hypercapnia. The hypercapnic ventilatory response (HcVR) was evaluated by whole body plethysmography in wild type (WT) and Epo deficient (Epo-TAg) adult male mice under 4%CO.

Evolution of Muscular Oxygenation during a Walking Test in Preterm Children.

J Pediatr

December 2020

ILFOMER, Institut Limousin de Formation aux Métiers de la Réadaptation, Limoges, France; Laboratoire HAVAE, EA6310, Université de Limoges, Limoges, France. Electronic address:

Objective: To explore measures of peripheral muscular oxygenation, coupled to gait characteristics, between preterm and full-term children during a 6-minute walking test (6MWT).

Study Design: Prepubescent children performed a 6MWT. During the test, changes in muscular oxyhemoglobin, deoxyhemoglobin, and total hemoglobin were measured with Near-infrared spectroscopy technology, positioned on subjects' calves.

SARS-CoV-2 was already spreading in France in late December 2019.

The COVID-19 epidemic is believed to have started in late January 2020 in France. Here we report a case of a patient hospitalised in December 2019 in an intensive care unit in a hospital in the north of Paris for haemoptysis with no aetiological diagnosis. RT-PCR was performed retrospectively on the stored respiratory sample and confirmed the diagnosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection.

[Characterisation of the protective role of erythropoetin in a murine model of acute lung injury].

Laboratoire Hypoxie et Poumon, UMR U1272 Inserm-Université Paris 13, 1, rue de Chablis, 93017 Bobigny cedex, France. Electronic address:

In addition to its role in erythropoiesis, erythropoietin (Epo) plays a role in tissue protection, which includes cardioprotective, nephroprotective and neuroprotective effects. The presence of Epo and its receptor (Epo-R) in pulmonary tissue also suggests a cytoprotective effect of Epo in the lung. Our project aims to document this role in a murine model under-expressing Epo.

Skin Application of 4% Menthol Enhances Running Performance in Hot and Humid Climate.

Int J Sports Med

March 2020

EA 3596 'ACTES': Adaptation, Climat Tropical, Exercice et Santé, Universite des Antilles et de la Guyane, Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe.

Aerobic performance is negatively impacted by tropical climate due to impairment of thermoregulatory mechanisms. We tested the hypothesis that a torso application of a 4% menthol solution would have the same effect on a best performance 10-km run as an external use of cold water. Thirteen trained male athletes completed four outdoor 10-km runs (T=29.

Indications for treatment of sarcoidosis.

Curr Opin Pulm Med

September 2019

Service de Pneumologie, Hôpital Avicenne, Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris.

Purpose Of Review: To describe the current knowledge on indications for sarcoidosis treatment.

Recent Findings: Despite the lack of evidence-based recommendations, the sarcoidosis community has adopted the concept of starting systemic anti-inflammatory treatment because of potential danger (risk of severe dysfunction on major organs or death) or unacceptable impaired quality of life (QoL). On the contrary, while QoL and functionality are patients' priorities, few studies have evaluated treatment effect on patient-reported outcomes.
