Background And Objectives: Drawing causal conclusions from real-world data (RWD) poses methodological challenges and risk of bias. We aimed to systematically assess the type and impact of potential biases that may occur when analyzing RWD using the case of progressive ovarian cancer.

Methods: We retrospectively compared overall survival with and without second-line chemotherapy (LOT2) using electronic medical records.

Background: Chemotherapy is often used in the treatment of breast cancer in women. Side effects such as diarrhea, fatigue, hair loss, fever or disturbances in blood formation impair the women's quality of life. An essential treatment goal of the accompanying mistletoe therapy (MT) used in complementary medicine is to improve the health-related quality of life during cancer therapy.

Article Synopsis
  • - Women with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) have a significantly lower health-related quality of life (HRQoL) compared to those with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and healthy individuals, a trend that remains even after considering various demographic and emotional factors.
  • - The study found that depression and fatigue were the strongest negative predictors of HRQoL among FMS and RA patients, indicating a significant emotional impact on their health-related quality of life.
  • - Interestingly, once the type of diagnosis (FMS vs. RA) was taken into account, many of the associations between clinical symptoms and HRQoL diminished, suggesting that HRQoL impairment may be a fundamental aspect of FMS itself.

Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is a chronic pain condition accompanied by affective symptoms and cognitive impairments. This study investigated central nervous correlates of attentional and emotional processing in FMS. Therefore, event-related potentials were recorded in 26 FMS patients and 26 healthy controls during a dot probe task, which required participants to decide which side of the screen an asterisk was displayed on; the asterisk was immediately preceded by a facial expression (anger, pain, happiness, neutral) on the left or right side.

Objective: Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is characterized by chronic widespread pain accompanied by symptoms like fatigue, insomnia, depression, anxiety and cognitive impairments. In addition to central nervous pain sensitization, emotional dysregulation may be involved in FMS pathogenesis. This study investigated central nervous correlates of affective and attentional processing in FMS using an implicit task.

Objective: The ability to accurately identify facial expressions of emotions is crucial in human interaction. Although a previous study suggested deficient emotional face recognition in patients with fibromyalgia, not much is known about the origin of this impairment. Against this background, the present study investigated the role of executive functions.
