Recognizing non-invasive growth patterns is necessary for correct diagnosis, invasive size determination and pT-stage in resected non-small cell lung carcinoma. Due to iatrogenic collapse after resection, the distinction between adenocarcinoma in-situ (AIS) and invasive adenocarcinoma may be difficult. The aim of this study is to investigate the complex morphology of non-mucinous non-invasive patterns of AIS in resection specimen with iatrogenic collapse, and to relate this to follow-up.

Context: Loose tumor cells and tumor cell clusters can be recognized in the lumen of intratumoral pulmonary arteries of resected non-small cell lung cancer specimens. It is unclear whether these should be considered tumor-emboli, and as such could predict a worsened prognosis.
Objective: To investigate the nature and prognostic impact of pulmonary artery intraluminal tumor cells.

Rlip76 (Rlip) is a multifunctional membrane protein that facilitates the high metabolic rates of cancer cells through the efflux of toxic metabolites and other functions. Rlip inhibition or depletion results in broad-spectrum anti-cancer effects in vitro and in vivo. Rlip depletion effectively suppresses malignancy and causes global reversion of characteristic CpG island methylomic and transcriptomic aberrations in the p53-null mouse model of spontaneous carcinogenesis through incompletely defined signaling and transcriptomic mechanisms.

Aims: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between proliferative activity, PD-L1 status and nuclear size changes after preoperative chemoradiotherapy (CRT) and the clinical outcome in patients with superior sulcus tumours.
Methods: Proliferative activity (MIB-1) and PD-L1 status were estimated by immunohistochemistry in the tumour cells of resection specimen in a series of 33 patients with residual tumour after trimodality therapy for a sulcus superior tumour between 2005 and 2014. A morphometric analysis of both pretreatment and post-treatment tumour materials was also performed.

Minimally-invasive tools to assess tumour presence and burden may improve clinical management. FDG-PET (metabolic) imaging is the current gold standard for interim response assessment in patients with classical Hodgkin Lymphoma (cHL), but this technique cannot be repeated frequently. Here we show that microRNAs (miRNA) associated with tumour-secreted extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the circulation of cHL patients may improve response assessment.

We recently reported that loss of one or both alleles of , which encodes the stress-protective protein RLIP76 (Rlip), exerts a strong dominant negative effect on both the inherent cancer susceptibility and the chemically inducible cancer susceptibility of mice lacking one or both alleles of the tumor suppressor p53. In this paper, we examined whether congenital Rlip deficiency could prevent genetically-driven breast cancer in two transgenic mouse models: the MMTV-PyVT model, which expresses the polyomavirus middle T antigen (PyVT) under control of the mouse mammary tumor virus promoter (MMTV) and the MMTV-Erbb2 model which expresses MMTV-driven erythroblastic leukemia viral oncogene homolog 2 (Erbb2, HER2/Neu) and frequently acquires p53 mutations. We found that loss of either one or two Rlip alleles had a suppressive effect on carcinogenesis in Erbb2 over-expressing mice.

RLIP76 (RAL-binding protein-1, Rlip) is a stress-protective mercapturic-acid-pathway transporter protein that also plays a key role in regulating clathrin-dependent endocytosis as a Ral effector. Targeted inhibition or depletion of Rlip causes regression of xenografts of many cancers and is capable of abrogating tumor formation in p53-null mice. This is associated with the reversion of the abnormal methylomic profile of p53-null mice to wild-type.

Background: Invasive fungal diseases (IFD) are life-threatening infections most commonly diagnosed in acute leukaemia patients with prolonged neutropenia and are uncommonly diagnosed in patients with lymphoproliferative diseases.
Objectives: Following the initial report of aspergillosis diagnosed shortly after beginning ibrutinib for chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, a survey was developed to seek additional cases of IFD during ibrutinib treatment.
Methods: Local and international physicians and groups were approached for relevant cases.

Background: The role of 2-[F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET)/computed tomography (CT) in routine diagnostic staging remains controversial. In case of discordance between FDG-PET and CT, a compromise has to be made between the risk of false positive FDG-PET and the risk of delaying appropriate salvage intervention. Second, with intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), smaller radiation fields allow tissue sparing, but could also lead to more marginal failures.

Objective: Despite an extensive screening programme in The Netherlands, some cases of cervical cancer are still diagnosed in late stages of disease. The aim of the present study was to investigate which elements in the diagnostic process of cervical cancer may be improved.
Methods: This is a retrospective study of 120 patients with cervical cancer diagnosed between January 1st 2008 and June 1st 2010 at the University Medical Center Utrecht.
